The truth may be finally emerging about the "Gospel of Jesus's Wife," a highly controversial papyrus suggesting that some people, in ancient times, believed Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene. New research on the papyrus' ink points to the possibility that it is authentic, researchers say, while newly obtained documents may shed light on the origins of the business-card-sized fragment.

Debate about the credibility of the "gospel" began as soon as Harvard University professor Karen King reported her discovery of the papyrus in September 2012. Written in Coptic (an Egyptian language), the papyrus fragment contains a translated line that reads, "Jesus said to them, 'My wife …'" and also refers to a "Mary," possibly Mary Magdalene...Analysis of the papyrus, detailed last year in the Harvard Theological Review journal, suggested the papyrus dates back around 1,200 years (somewhere between the sixth and ninth centuries) while the ink is of a type that could have been created at that time. These findings have led King to support the text's authenticity.

The claim that Jesus was the Christ, the only begotten son of god born of a virgin, crucified for your salvation, resurrected and ascended to heaven we're he allegedly rules over us and will judge whether you ultimately die or live eternally not enough controversy for you?

Proof that he was married to a woman and that he had children threatens the tenats and the very foundation of Christianity. This is the controversy.

Think of it this way. Back in the time of Roman occupation, how many males were unmarried by the time they were 30?

People got married in their teens. It would be like a guy who's 50 now who never married. Probably less unusual now, but still unusual.

I bet he was a good carpenter.

This is fake. Most likely some romans or opposition group of Jesus in egypt starting rumours. Rumours to confused future generations of the one true saviour and kings of kings who is Jesus Christ.

Same thing is happening today with celebs across the glope. Rumours and newpaper articles being written. No big news just more people trying to disprove Christianity. Sad days we are living. Jesus is coming again soon!

I hope so! One can only take so much anticipation!

Why does it change things? So he was married? It would mean that priests could marry. Or gasp...allow women priests?

Sounds more like the power structure in the Catholic Church would be threatened. Big deal.

Jesus wasn't just any son he was the Son of God. He came with the purpose as Mark 10:45 explains. The Bible is prefect and God gave us all the information needed to us.

The papyrus dates back 1200 years but Jesus lived 2000 years ago.

So how is it historically correct when it was written so long after Jesus's death?

Great point lol This logic can be used for ever single text that has been written after the fact actually. Origins of the Bible have been pieced together from writings around 2nd century AD. Really how can any of it be historically accurate ? The discrepancies in the origins of lets say the Torah are laughable the dates are all over the place.

Most ancient texts have been cunningly plagiarized from previous works to fit the respective times. Camp fire fairy tales have come a long way.

It's more likely he said, "My bride" seeing that the church is the bride of Christ.

But feel free to believe whatever you want on this one... I don't think it will change anyone's opinions on the matter.

Wait, 1200 years old? What the crap is the fuss about?

The power structure in the Catholic Church was threatened before it even began lol. Much of the stuff they do was negated by Jesus' death.
