TIPS AND TRICKS

Spoiler

Here are some tips and tricks in becoming a champion in RGMG.

Change your lines if team is slumping.

Feel free to experiment, and even demote a top 6 forward to the bottom 6.

Chemistry is important, so if something WORKS don't change it. For example if your top line is on fire, but rest of the team isn't, then move around the rest of the team not the top line.

Make a trade. A minor one can help just as much as a big one. Some players may not be meant to be on your team.

Rebuilders - Don't trade ALL your vets. Your prospects will need a mentor to play with.

Don't put all your eggs in one basket. Somewhat spreading our your lines can help.

Have a mixture of different player types on each line. A passer, shooter and powerforward/grinder for example.

Acquire solid depth pieces. A weak bottom 6 or bottom defense pairing, could potentially hurt your team significantly.

For the most part players on your 2nd, 3rd and 4th lines will not produce as much as players on the top line. Kassian is a 55 point player on the first line, and probably a 15 point guy on the 4th. THERE ARE exceptions, Kucherov and Vrbata can produce 1st line numbers on the 2nd line. Pirri was actually BETTER on the 2nd line.

A prospect who can put up 60-90 points in the AHL level will have a strong shot of being an NHL player.

Be patient with 18-19 year old prospects, they may take time in the AHL level.

Young players on your roster will not grow if they are constantly in a small role. If you have a future top 4 d-man on your bottom pair, and you feel he can make the jump MAKE room for him. Morrissey is a great example of this. Spent the first year in a sheltered role, and is now a top 4 D-man.

ROSTER MANAGEMENT:

Spoiler

The salary cap is currently set at $74,000,000.

You cannot be over the cap for the most part. The only exceptions are:

You are immediately waiving/sending someone down after a trade.

        You are in the off-season.

        You are in the playoffs

The minimum amount of players you can have on your roster is 20.

The maximum amount of players you can have on your roster is 23.

You must have a minimum of 12 forwards, 6 defensemen, and 2 goaltenders.

Players can play in their off-wing, or off-side but it can make a small difference in chemistry. Player positions are fixed at the beginning of the season, so you must request a position change with a valid source in the off-season via PM.

TRADES / SALARY RETENTION:

Spoiler

    PM all trade to

    TheRussianRocket and Tig'Ol Bitties

Make sure to be cap compliant! I advise everyone to make their own personal spreadsheet with there roster, so they can do number crunching.

You must PM trades in this format.

    To Pittsburgh:
    Brandon Pirri
    Alexander Edler
    2017 Vancouver 1st

    To Vancouver:
    Rob Scuderi (1.55M retained)

Type out the full players name with no spelling errors, and type the draft pick the EXACT same way as in the example (year team round) and if you are retaining salary.

Reason being is, I have an automatic trade input tool that updates the cap sheet, and it needs to be typed in a certain way for it to make the changes.

As for retaining salary in trades, you cannot retain salary on multi-year deals.

However, you can retain upwards of 80% of the players salary on a 1 year deal in a trade.

WAIVERS / MINORS / CALL UPS:

Spoiler

If you wish to send someone down to the minors, they must go through waivers,

    unless the player is:

        23 years old or younger

Players that fall into that age group, can be sent up and down freely, without the risk of losing them on waivers.

Also, you CANNOT waive anyone with a contract:

Over $1,500,000 (unless they are 23 years old or younger)

Every team has 24 hours to claim a player that has been placed on waivers, and it will be based on priority (lowest overall team to highest).

Waivers are TURNED OFF after the trade deadline. You still have to follow these rules (23 years old or younger OR 1.5 million contract or less)

If you claim a player, you must keep him on your NHL roster for 10 games

To waive, send-down or call-up a player, post it in the thread like this:

    Vancouver calls up Jordan Subban

    Vancouver waives Tobias Rieder

    Vancouver sends down Bo Horvat

Please do not try to sneakily hide it, or mask it in a big post like this:

    http://forum.canucks.com/topic/370654-rgmg-the-sim/?view=findpost&p=12911882

Make a separate post for these transactions.

Also you cannot call up a prospect unless he was on your opening night roster.

RESIGNING PLAYERS:

Spoiler

YOU CANNOT RE-SIGN ANY RECENTLY RE-SIGNED UFA'S IN THE OFFSEASON. You must wait for the season start.

BM24 (West Agent) and GFY (East Agent) are the UFA player agents. PM all offers to them with proper reasoning on why the player should stay, potential role, linemates, etc. Also provide the average cap hit and years.

Any player who is under 27 years of age is eligible for restricted free agency. Meaning, you will hold onto their rights no matter what, unless they got offersheeted (this is discussed more later on).

Example offer (very brief one, please expand more):

Hey, I am looking to extend "player name".

He is a big part of our future, he will be on our 1st line for the foreseeable future....

We are a cup contending team, and need his skills.

We are offering a "?" year deal averaging "?" million.

    Thank you.

Please do not low-ball. Here is a general ball-park for contracts:

    Franchise/elite players: 7.5 - 8.5 million
Players who are in a league of their own. CONSISTENTLY in the top in scoring, and pace for over 90pts (as a forward) and 60+pts (as a defenseman).

        Recent examples: Byfuglien (8 x 8), Giordano (8.2 x 3), Voracek (8 x 8)

    1st liners / top pairing: 6 - 7.49 million
Players who CONSISTENTLY pace for over 65 pts (as a forward) and 45+pts (as a defenseman).

        Recent examples: Hudler (7.25 x 2), Barrie (7 x 5)

    2nd liners / top 4 defenseman: 4 - 5.99 million
Players who CONSISTENTLY pace for over 45 pts (as a forward) and 30+pts (as a defenseman).

        Recent examples: Eriksson (5.75 x 3), Dekeyser (4.5 x 2)

    3rd liners / top 6 defenseman: 2 - 3.99 million
Players who CONSISTENTLY pace for over 30 pts (as a forward) and 20+pts (as a defenseman).

        Recent examples: Gunnarsson (2 x 4), Helm (3.5 x 5)

    4th liners / bottom pair defenseman: 1 - 2 million
Players who CONSISTENTLY pace for over 10 pts (as a forward) and 10+pts (as a defenseman).

    AHL / Spares / Scrubs: .700 - .900 million
        Self explanatory.

    FACTORS FOR CONTRACTS:
            - POTENTIAL (If you try to sign an RFA with a subpar year to a 5yr deal, hes would get paid based on potential.)
            - CONSISTENCY (1 good year at 31 years old may not merrit a high end contract)
            - PEDIGREE (If Toews and Zajac produce at the same clip, Toews would get a higher contract due to pedigree/upside)
            - PLAYER TYPE (DD (Defensive Defenseman) have superior D stats that do not get shown. If they can also put up points, that makes them more valuable.)

    For simplicity/saving time, if your prospect has no contract, I will give them a default one based on the following;

        1st - 5th overall picks: 3.75 million

        6th - 9th overall picks: 2.75 million

        10th - 15th overall picks: 1.75 million

        16th - 30th overall picks: 1.05 million

        31st - 120th overall picks: .875 million

RFA resigning will be in a arbitration basis. You will PM JE14 all your RFAs you wish to resign. You also provide him a 'deal type'.

1 year (prove yourself contract)

2 year (bridge)

5 year (long term, I believe in you).

JE14 will then assign a dollar value and you have the option to accept it or decline and re-arbitrate. If you decline the initial offer, the RFA will be subjected to receiving offersheets.

FREE-AGENCY

Spoiler

During the free-agency phase, RGMG takes a different approach.

All the major free-agents will have a general guide-line of where they want to sign, and it will posted in the thread. Examples could be: young fast skilled team, cup contending team, rebuilding team, top 6 role, play with a big center, play with a playmaker, play in Canada, play in hometown, wants X amount of dollars, wants long term deal, etc...

Any player who is 27 years of age or older is eligible for unrestricted free agency.

Every team has 1 chance to offer a free-agent, through this form:

    https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1cAEs0CTdrHRfjHBnDwhIUHTtaIu-6suZQyJhZtD1f5w/edit#

    Free-agent list:

    TBA

You can offer multiple players, in case you don't get the player you wont. Don't worry about signing 5-6 players and being in cap hell. You can specify in the form that this is your 1st option, 2nd option, 3rd, etc...

After the major free-agents have signed, the remainder will sign with the team with that offers the best contract, not really caring about team fit.

OFFER-SHEETS

Spoiler

Starting July 1st of each season, unsigned RFA's may entertain contract offers from teams that don't own his rights. Should an RFA sign one of these deals, known as 'offersheets', the club has 3 days to match the offersheet. If the team declines to match they are entitled to the following compensation:

    $2,000,000 - $3,250,000     (2nd round pick)

    $3,500,000 - $4,750,000     (2nd round pick, 2 perk points)

    $5,000,000 - $6,250,000     (1st round pick, 2 perk points)

$6,500,000+                      (1st round pick, 2nd round pick, 2 perk points)

If you don't resign a minor RFA (under 2m) that shows me that you don' care for the prospect, and he will be able to sign with anyone with no compensation.

You can only offersheet once per off season.
