Brad "The Rat" Marchand out with concussion

Marchand is one of the very few players I'm actually happy with getting injured. They bring nothing to this sport that makes it better and they bring a lot that ruins its image.

Marchand can have his career end for all I care. Torres and Brown can go with him.

Don't know why but I'm not feeling too sorry for him. You gotta hand it to Dale Weise for "defending" himself.

The Boston Bruins cant shake the injury bug.

Captain Zdeno Chara (upper body injury) has yet to play in the teams first two games both losses and now comes word that agitating forward Brad Marchand is out indefinitely with a concussion.

Coach Claude Julien announced Marchands issue at the teams Sunday practice.

CSN New Englands Joe Haggerty pinpointed the play where Marchand got hurt in Saturdays 4-2 loss to Montreal.

Brad Marchand and defenseman Matt Irwin were both missing from the Ristuccia Arena ice for Sundays practice. Marchand was forced out of the Habs loss in the third period when he was caught with an inadvertent elbow to the head from Montreal grinder forward Dale Weise. It doesnt take much of medical leap to assume that the Bruins' agitator might have sustained his second career concussion in the NHL and sure enough, Bruins coach Claude Julien confirmed as much after practice. There is no timetable as of yet for his return to the lineup.

The 27-year-old Marchand is one of the teams core players and the Bruins were counting on him to maintain some level of stability after a summer that saw the team trade stalwarts Milan Lucic and Dougie Hamilton. Marchand has scored 21 goals or more in each of his full seasons. In 45 games in the 2012-13 lockout-shortened year he notched 18 scores.

Said Big Bad Blog:

As Bostons leading goal-scorer in two of the last three seasons, he would be a major piece for Boston to lose for any period of time.

As far as good news for the Bruins, Chara is questionable for the teams Monday game against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
