TRADE TIME?

Recommended Posts

Higgins is a decent 3rd liner that can score goals. You didn't see a single glimpse of him and you propose a trade. As for Baertschi, you're out of your mind...

It's a young mans game & we have plenty of Vets (10):

D.Sedin

H.Sedin

Burrows

Hansen

Dorsett

Prust

Vrbata

Sutter

Cracknell

& Higgins

At least you have more logic than Desi.

Ok I agree. We could use a young up & coming D. Not sure Higgins can fetch you a R.Jossi but maybe JB knows of one that is still out there? (Hutton type for Higgins)?

This being a great situation to be in now with our young guys committed & coming along strongly. (Horvat, McCann, Virtanen, & Gaunce, etc.)  And with the returns of Higgins & Prust, It is time for someone to move along either via trade(Higgins) or waivers (Sven) soon.

Those are the only 2 I see at this time. There's only so many spots & that's what I see the most logic.

Someone has to go eventually, Who's it gonna be???

I think its unlikely we will see any trades this early, and expect if any to come at the deadline or draft - here's why

1. Just because the young guys have made the team, doesn't mean they can't be sent back if struggling as the season wears on, or will be in the lineup every game - and for that reason, having depth is important. Realize this, they haven't proven they can compete over an 82 game schedule yet (and while I think they will), JB won't move anyone until they've PROVEN they can stick over a season and are legitimate NHL'ers. Again, I am not saying they are 'not nhler's' just that JB will need to keep vets around as a hedge.

2. Injuries happen, again for this reason depth is important

3. Trade value will be highest for some of our vets at the deadline. Vrbata, Hammer, Hansen or Higgins will all be valuable pieces to a contending team. For that reason, I suspect JB would wait as well, to extract more of a return. That being said, if we are playing well and in contention we may just want to keep them. What's interesting with this team is we really don't know what this team will be playing like in April. If the young guns continue to play well, if Virtanen now starts taking more offensive risks given he feels he's made it, and produces more it will be interesting.

I really don't see any trades until the deadline or draft for those reasons.

Single glimps? 5 years of seeing a good player but there are apparantly better younger guys. eg. Horvat, McCann, Virtanen

Also what's wrong with moving a Vet for a solid young prospect like Hutton who may not have been exposed yet??? I'm sure JB knows of some seeing that is his job & he does get paid well to do & succeed at.

CBJ
Higgins
Jensen
Sbisa

VAN
Murray

Higgins is kind of like an on-ice coach and has played for Tortorella in New York and in Vancouver. He was a Tortorella go-to guy in both cities. Defensive specialist.

Jensen was also popular with Tortorella, ending up on the 1st and 2nd lines. Seen as a bright prospect, he fell out of favor in Vancouver when new management took over and could use a fresh start. Goal scorer.

Sbisa is not as bad as Vancouver makes him out to be but space would need to be made for Murray.

Lmao. That'd be great.

Op- Unless it's a megatrade, nothing til the deadline is my guess.

lol. Higgins, Jensen, and Sbisa for Murray?

Talk about undervaluing Opposing players' values.

CBJ hangs up the phone.

I mean THIS SEASON. Also, he's a great mentor for our current young guys. Which is a benefit. And he get get those better young guys to improve. A job for a vet is to be a role model for the young ones. Gradually getting to their twilight of their career. Higgins is only 32 and has already experienced a Cup Final and a lot of Playoff games, which he will teach the rookies how to perform in the Play-offs.

You're making the assumption that the Canucks stay healthy...something that's never happened.

Yeah, maybe let's keep em' for now & talk trades a bit closer to, oh I don't know, the TRADE DEADLINE. Sheesh.

Sbisa out long term. Now we have a legit need for a defenceman. He may not have been sound defensively but he was hitting, putting up points lately and played pretty big minutes with Hamhuis injured. Just shows how thin our blueline is - when one defenceman's injured (Hamhuis) we have a pretty weak bottom-3 of Weber, Bartkowski and Sbisa. Heaven-forbid what would happen if we lost one of Edler or Tanev to injury as well as a bottom-4 guy....

Right now, without Hamhuis, our pairings look like this:

Edler - Tanev

Hutton - Weber

Bartkowski - Biega

? Fedun ?

That's an all-AHL bottom-4 there. Hutton's been great so far but he's still just an 18ish minute guy, Weber should be the 6th defenceman, Bartkowski should be the first injury replacement and we really need a better 1st call-up from the AHL than bloody Biega who is useless.

Now's the perfect time for a trade.

Jensen + 2nd to Anaheim for Shea Theodore. See you later.

I've said it before; your being a bit cock headed calling Weber, Hutton and Bartkowski an AHL bottom 4.

Further; Jensen and a 2knd does not get you Theodore.

PS; bet Anaheim is wishing they integrated Theodore into their line up instead of a certain other D.
