Not to mention he's a BC boy.

Yep. My cousin played a couple seasons with him in BC when they were younger. Was always going to make the NHL. Work ethic and smarts was always there to play a sound game.

...only concern would be who to drop if we picked him up. Already have 14 forwards and rolling with 7 dmen as is. In a perfect world, Higgins is traded away to make room but doubt that happens. Because of the position we're in, highly doubt we get him even though it would be a positive addition.

they would both fit our youth movement, I think we need to seriously consider moving a couple of our forwards who have been here a while. We also need to determine what to do with Prust, ufa to be, will he resign? Is he worth the money or the term, he has a lot of miles and fights on his body, might be beneficial to move him to more of a contending team closer to the deadline

K - Canucks have Hutton day-to-day and Weber has been awful all around. Furthermore, Toronto took Corrado as depth and this could be relatively nice payback.

Petter Granberg: 23, RHed defenseman, 6'3, 205 pounds, 600,000 cap hit, not afraid of rough play/dirty areas, looking like a dependable defensive defenseman at the AHL level. Won SHL championship, was on the Swedish team that won WC.

It's always a bit risky to lose your place in the waiver-wire line-up, but this could be a good short-term injury solution until Hutton is back (maybe only one game), then he or Weber could be sent down. No real loss outside of moving down the line-up IMO.

There's no such thing as losing your place in the waiver wire line up. The only way your position changes is if your team gets better (or worse) and your spot in the standings changes. You do not go to the end of the list if you make a claim.

Does anyone know how many waiver pick ups in the last decade have made any sort of a difference to a Cup team, even if it was a few years after the claim?  I'm just curious if these waiver wire guys are kind of what they are - waiver wire guys, who really are not, and will not be difference makers?

not even the same thing!Weber is good passer and on the PP,we need him better on the PP so pretty much we get a bigger guy with a decent pass and only lose Weber who hasn't played how he should!I would be ok with picking up a better D and letting another go when we are all healthy, but again that might not happen and we keep all!

The odds are low, but if the player is young and developing still I don't see the harm in taking a chance. It would cost us nothing more than a roster spot to claim him.

Only player that comes to mind is Dale Weise. We claimed him off of waivers, unfortunately Montreal is benefiting from us dumping him.

If he slides to our spot without being taken by another team.

Ferrarro might be a decent gap filler for us while kids develop in college/junior/Utica.

Look at it this way - we wouldn't be giving up a second round pick this time!

Pretty much. If we could get a serviceable former 2nd round player for free, it would lessen the loss of the 2nd we gave up for Vey.
