these investors are better off, applying for  NFL expansion.  no joke.  NHL is a dud league if not for the Canadians "us" this league is garbage.  literally.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but at least they're trying to expand the sport by going south. As much as us Canadians want to complain about it, it's still somewhat logical of a move to make the NHL more than just a "dud" league. There's a lot of people in the south and limited people up north. While some teams have evidently done poorly (ie. Arizona), other teams have been decent (LA #9 on that list, Dallas up there as well and still ahead of Calgary, Ottawa, and Winnipeg).

I think a lot of these guys buy teams partially for the prestige of owning a national sports team.  Plus, look at Francesco and the Canucks. Paid $207 million in 2005, now worth $750 million, 360% return on investment over 10 years is not too shabby.

That shows you how stupid the NHL really is.  With some teams struggling financially, why would they impose an unrealistic expansion fee on a new team?  Talk about setting a new team up for economic ruin before they even get started.

Because that is how some of those owner's will see a return on their investment. Expansion fees go right to the owners.
