Travis Green. Hopefully no teams snipe him from us..

Its a transition year...say we did fire Willie..Hire Travis..then we inevitably lose a few,and then the fanbase gets ornery, and the tired cliches come out.. "Outcoached".."Rookie Coach".."Wont play the kids"...........All of a sudden threads appear on CDC .."Is It Time To Fire Travis Green...?".........Rinse and repeat.

Meh.....not gonna get too worked up over this one. Team is banged up. Ducks have some heavy talent and needed a win.

Canucks were well rested (had two days off before the game in California),and they are no more banged up than any other team...There was no excuse for such a lame effort,no wonder Willie looked visibly shaken after the game.

John Garrett said they looked like an exhausted team,....so take out of that what you will.

Why are people so defensive? Kesler probably told the truth. Horvat has been playing like crap this whole season. The twins still stay connected to the past players and those players always stay in touch to see whats going on. The last player that made an impact as a 18-19 year old and worked well was Kesler, so whatever he says, Horvat, McCaan, and Virtanen all should listen. It's for their own good. This year, and maybe even the next few years, they are going to take a beating but hopefully they will have the right mindset to develop and become somebody in the NHL world. Right now, they are just prospects. While, fans treat them too well as potential future franchise players, unless you are McDavid, the NHL players don't know who they are. The prospects will have to earn their position in the NHL.

We'd be lucky if any of the kids come close to Kesler and he's earned all his titles. Selke winning, two-way forward, one of the best shut down players in the league. While, his offense has dried up a bit, he still steps it up in the playoffs.

Don't like his antics? Boo hoo. Look at every single team that won a cup. They have those type of players. When Kesler was a Canuck, nobody complained about it.  It's only when he's gone, that people start crying.

As for the clown that says what has Kesler won? and says Bo Horvat will be a gold medal winner one day. Look at the competition. Bo Horvat has a hell lot of developing to do, to even become close to playing for Team Canada. With the way he's playing right now, he won't even be considered for the team, let alone be on the team. Such a stupid comment.

Haha yeah, he's still an elite shutdown player whose offence has just dried up a little.:)

I agree with the rest of your post though actually, I'm sure our youngsters can learn a thing or two from playing against Kesler. I don't think it was a counter-productive experience at all.

Weber is going to be in the Swiss league next season. It's a miracle how he's still in the NHL being this bad consistently.

I am not usually the one who critizes. I love Canucks but this was very bad game. And I am really surprised that Weber is still getting so many opportunities. Look at his ice time (TOI) and more specifically his PP ice time (TOI-PP). That is almost 37 minutes on PP in his last 9 games. Incredible.

Let´s hope they up the compete level against the Kings!

This reminds me of a movie quote:

Chief Wyatt Rash: My mother always used to say, "When life hands you potatoes, make potato salad."
Mona Dearly: Yeah? Well life handed me a pile of s**t. What am I supposed to do with that?
Phil Dearly: Make s**t salad?

That was from a movie called "Drowning Mona". Never heard of it? That's OK, cuz it was terrible... like one of the teams on the ice tonight.

Benning also gave him 1.5 million and essentially had him penciled in as a top 4.

That's what scares me most going forward.

He also gave him a 1-year deal.

Had he broke the bank to spend big money on a long-term contract to sleep some lipstick on this pig, that would have been far more worrisome.

All the acquisitions and contracts were for 1 year (Weber, Bartkowski, Prust, Baertschi...even Vey, Clendening & Corrado). The only impending UFA we seem to even have attempted to sign was Sutter. It couldn't be more obvious that this is a transitional year. So why not re-sign a guy who can score PP goals for one year, and hope he does well enough to get you a pick come the deadline?

Worst game top to bottom the entire year. Credit to the Ducks, they played like a hungry team but coming off a pathetic Chicago loss we should have jumped on them harder.

Sedins with some nice passing at times but they had a bad game. Hansen was a non factor apart from a couple of nice hits and at least he tried to stand up for his team mates, but if they can't get it together again I think it's time for that experiment to end.

Horvat cost us the first 2 goals of the game, absolutely brutal defence on the first goal and a terribly stupid giveaway at the end of the period on the PK on the next one followed by not taking his man properly on the goal itself. Sure, there were big rebounds and sloppy, non-physical play from the defencemen, but Horvat was a huge part of those goals. He's been bad. Really bad defensively, and it's a lot of pressure to be our 2nd line center when he really should be playing 10-12 minutes a night at the most. He's not ready for this responsibility but right now WD doesn't have a choice, with Sutter injured and JB not willing to give the team anything. Tough position to be in, and I fear it's really damaging Horvat's development. We had a 20 goal, 50-60 point shutdown center in Horvat at the end of last season, but after this destroying of his confidence I don't know if  he'll end up being that special.

Higgins, Burrows, Virtanen, Dorsett and Prust are all getting lumped into the same group for this game - invisible. Unfortunate injury to Virtanen, he was skating well and drew a penalty but no response at all by our team on the PP or physically where it mattered most tonight. We got bullied and our policemen Prust and Dorsett just sat back and let it happen. No big hits from these guys, and that's what they're there for. Instead we have our first liner Hansen going around throwing the body.

Higgins, Vbrata and McCann generated some nice chances but I think we need to swap Higgins with a more physical presence. Shame we don't have one, but I'd love to see Gaunce get that slot. He's a bigger body and MUCH harder to handle. He scored a great goal the way we need to try and do more of - big body in front of the net.

Cracknell had a fantastic game, and you know the Canucks sucked when their 13th forward is their best player. Best forechecking and most consistent forechecking I've seen in a long time. Then there's McCann. I'll try and keep this short, he was fantastic for us. This kid is full of character, toughness and smarts. He had the most A-grade Canuck scoring chances which he really generated himself (or with a little bit of help from Vbrata) out of nothing and that's the sign of someone special. He knows the sweet spots, drifts into the center of the slot to get a shot away. Every time he's on the ice he controls the play and players follow him as opposed to most other rookies who are chasing the play. Then defensively he makes a couple of great back-checks and even when he turns the puck over defensively, he works like an absolute dog to get it back and clear the zone - and he did a couple of times. That's not even to mention the fact that after he gets railed into the boards by Kesler he has the mental toughness to go hard after their captain Getzlaf, a veteran who's a head taller than him, and fight him all the way down to the ice.

This McCann kid is special, we should be protecting him and instead we've left him out on his own with crap linemates to get bullied by the Duck giants. The Canucks team should be disgraced with what they did tonight, both on the scoreboard but more importantly physically and with their kids. That being said, the character McCann showed in a big game is the reason he's going to be this team's next captain, not Horvat. I was always a fan of trading McCann before I saw him play like this but I have to say, he's got to be one of the few untouchables on this team. Horvat is not anymore.

Defensively, we're a joke, I don't even want to get into this because it's the same story every game. Not physical enough to shutdown big strong forwards, even Edler and Tanev are struggling to do so now. Hamhuis was good in the first half, then he just made mistake after mistake. Sbisa and Bartkowski on the other hand were fantastic for us. Sbisa played physically, he got the puck out nicely and had a good stick all game long. Bartkowski was skating fantastically and that was a beautiful hit he threw. Our top-3 should try and play these sorts of games more physically, there's a time and place for it and that was tonight. As for Weber, I never wanted him on this team and he's showing us all why. He doesn't belong in the NHL on any playoff team.

Miller is fatigued, it's clear. We need to give him a proper rest and get Markstrom going. I'd be happy with a 50% split over the next month even just to try and rest Miller because that start of the season run has worn him right out. Stupid move by WD not to trust Bachman with the occasional game because now it's hurting us every single night.

Great post DUC.

Personally I could not believe the lack of energy and compete from most of the team with the exceptions you mentioned. We can only hope that these factors are top of JB's list.

That said, let's not kid ourselves, the Ducks ARE a top contender. They may have been slow out the blocks but just look down their roster and it is easy to see why they will power their way to a high position.

So is it surprising we were exposed? No. What was surprising was the lack of "fight" We are not a big team but to see Tanev pushed around and bullied by Bieksa before the 1st goal was an eye opener and honestly I cannot see a player like that being viable in a SC contender.

Higgins and Hamhuis are the same and Bo for all his size and strength is also beginning to worry me with his lack of compete. Frankly we now see why we should have parted with Hammer (?:) ) and kept Bieksa imo. At present we have a full compliment of vets who can show the rookies how to BACK DOWN, that to me is disturbing.

The Ducks game for me emulated a playoff game against a contender and we failed miserably. Having said that we are NOT a cup contender but we are an NHL hockey team and I expected better.

This is just one game and they have the LA game to redeem themselves but can a this team respond? I hope so.

I don't know how I feel about this information.

On one hand, that's a classy move. On the other, just go away Weber....

It was a classy move Maroon was in serious trouble, i don't think Getzlug wanted to throw with the kid just rough him up a bit. McCann probably would have thrown with him tho, just because he's a gammer with sac.

Willie is looking shaken because the vets in the team all told him one thing before the game and did the exact opposite during it (with a few exceptions )

That's not good and can lead to trust issues and questions of character. Those who did perform would now be forgiven for pointing the finger and looking for answers from the rest in the dressing room after the game.

Let's start bringing up guys who want to make a difference if these players won't. Bo needs benched instead of praised in order to put a rocket up his ass. Higgins is a waste of time and I now have reservations about Tanev, he is far too laid back and passive. He needs to show some fire.

I am not in a great place just now regarding the team so I will reserve final judgement until after the LA game.
