OK,  maybe the title is a touch click-baitey. But looks like the Kings still intend to extend Lucic if possible. Also looks like Brown won't be the captain next year. Could leave Brown on the trade table. That's a big, long contract that would likely have a few bites. But, the more these reports come out, the more it sounds like the only way Lucic makes it to Vancouver is if he holds out soecifically to come here. Still possible given it is his hometown and he does have history with Benning but it's looking pretty unlikely. Especially when the team he's with now will get him deep in the playoffs every year. Brown losing captain is interesting though.

I said this a few days ago, They're keeping Lucic, Could package Brown in a cap dump.

who would want brown's whole contract - 5.8 until end of 19/20 for a guy who:

lost captaincy, cant get more than 35 points a season now, not as physical anymore, not a committed leader anymore????

Brown and a 2nd for Vrbata?

Just kidding. You guys would probably kill Benning if he did that.

It won't be until after the playoffs. They don't have a need to trade Brown until summer after they make another Cup run. By then Vrbata will be UFA.

No one, that's why I said he'd be packaged as a cap dump.

Give me a pick to take on that contract and I'd take him on my rebuilding team any day. He'd be tremendous to have around the kids, still has a reputation and respect around the league as Captain of 2 Cup teams, maybe 3 after this season.

He hasn't lost his captaincy.

Im just fine with not signing Lucic.  Id far rather go all in on big Byufglien....  thered still be plenty of $$ to chase another solid UFA like Brouwer.  Heck, they could re-sign Hamhuis short term too.

sedin sedin hansen

baertschi horvat brouwer

shinkaruk sutter etem

gaunce mccann virtanen

hamhuis byufglien

edler tanev

The same GM's that would trade a first for Vrbata at the deadline

Who's the current captain for the Kings? IMO it has to be Kopitar, after signing this contract that will make him a King for life. He is their version of the Sedins, pure class and leadership.

Canucks would have to overpay by a huge amount for Lucic.  Why would he want to join a club that is not close to contending, when he can win a cup right away and on a team that will contend for the next few years?

Hometown boys don't always want to play for their hometown.

He will be a hero, no, a legend in his own home town, a place where at the moment people generally don't like him.

Pride.
