Vancouver, B.C. – Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the club has signed forward Mike Zalewski to a two-way deal for the 2015.16 season, replacing his AHL-only contract. Zalewski has subsequently been recalled from the AHL Utica Comets and will join the team in Boston.

Zalewski, 23, has appeared in 36 games for the AHL Utica Comets this season where he currently ranks tied for fifth on the team in scoring with 17 points (8-9-17). In 2014.15, Zalewski collected 12 points (3-9-12) and 18 penalty minutes in 55 games played with the Comets. He made his NHL debut on April 12, 2014 at Edmonton and registered his first NHL point (assist) the following night versus Calgary.

Prior to making his professional debut in 2014, the 6’2”, 205-pound forward spent two seasons with the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) Engineers. In 71 career NCAA games, Zalewski compiled 47 points (21-26-47) and 75 penalty minutes.

The New Hartford, New York, native was signed by Vancouver as a free agent on March 14, 2014.

Does that mean a trade is looming for the Canucks?

Sutter is also close to returning, which would mean another player sitting out.

Yeah, it's really weird to do this, especially with Sutter coming back very soon. Can't help but wonder if Prust is gone now.

It might be for McCann.  They don't want McCann to play every game to not wear him down.  He might just be called up to allow them to keep McCann on his schedule and not have him be forced to play when he wasn't supposed to.

As well as Virtanen being set to play Boston.

Prust's days as a nuck seem numbered now.

Zalewski's a winger though. Doesn't make sense to replace McCann for him.

Wishful thinking.  More likely that Bur's hand is the size of a football from taking that puck last night.:(

Not wishful thinking. Just answering "ya think" to the trade rumors starting; nothing concrete. Mike Z doesn't seem like a swap in for Prust, he would be more for Cracknell than anyone else. Now...if it was Darren Archibald, that MIGHT be more a swap in for Prust.

Zalewski's name reminds me of Zarley Zalapski.

I'd bet Prust has secretly asked for a trade. He's in UFA year, he was supposed to be benched last game and forced WD to put him back in the lineup.  THis call up might not have anything to do with Prust but he's as good as gone.

Prust for a 5th?
