Quote

The former SFU criminology student has admitted to taking delight in killing animals and fantasizing about shooting homeless people. Several psychologists who interviewed Bourque found she showed no remorse or insight into her crimes.

"Bourque has an escalating criminal history," said the public notification issued by the ministry. "She has offended violently against both people and animals and is considered high risk to reoffend."

I hate to sound like a NIMBY, but I don't want this nutter living in my neighbourhood.  I have my doubts about people who take delight in killing animals.

My question to the CDC, do you think people that kill (for enjoyment) or torture animals can be rehabilitated?  I don't think so, but I'm listening.

EDIT:  Bold text added for context.

Anybody can be rehabilitated... just pull out vital parts of the brain leaving her in a vegetative state for the rest of her life. Problem solved.

I've killed an animal.

I have as well, but never for fun.  Bearing in mind when I was a kid I pulled all the legs off a crane-fly and I still feel bad about it.  I am not opposed to humanely killing animals for food or clothing, but "this" is not "that".  If you are relishing in killing "an animal" I hope you seek treatment before hitting Bourque's level of crazy.

I feel bad that I hit the deer, but I feel worse that I couldn't go back and tag it, bring it home, and make deer sausage out of it.

Oh well. Someone got it, as it was gone from where it died less than 24 hours later.

I've also pulled all the legs off a spider once with a friend, but other than that, I've never really felt any joy from torturing animals.

Glad to hear! I never really doubted you Jazz.  I assume you were calling me out on my hasty wording.

People who hurt animals can be otherwise well functioning members of society. If the question is whether they can be motivated to stop the behaviour: yes.
