Rudy says that the Dems are "afraid of his physical presence"......

The former New York mayor was upset Tuesday that Democrats are leaving him in the cold while pressing for John Bolton to be called as a witness at President Trump’s Senate impeachment trial.

They have indicated in every way possible they are afraid of my physical presence,” Giuliani told the Daily News as part of a string of overnight texts. “They know I know what they are covering up. Why do they want Bolton if not me if they can prove their lies. Again I really should stop wasting my time.”

As Trump’s bulldog personal attorney, Giuliani played a key role in the president’s scheme to pressure Ukraine to announce investigations of Joe Biden and debunked right-wing claims about the 2016 election.

Despite his texts, Giuliani refused to comply with a House Intelligence Committee subpoena for records relating to the Ukraine scheme issued as part of the impeachment inquiry.

But Giuliani made a distinction between subpoenas requesting records and ones requesting in-person testimony.

“If they wanted to subpoena me they would have to serve a subpoena in personem not a subpoena ducus tecum,” he said, using Latin legalese. “Do you understand? I’d be impressed?”

Asked for comment, a spokesman for House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) emailed The News a copy of the subpoena issued to Giuliani on Sept. 30.

Led by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York, Democrats in the upper chamber are putting pressure on Republicans to call Bolton, acting Trump chief of staff Mick Mulvaney and two other White House officials as witnesses at Trump’s trial.

The chamber’s 47 Democrats have expressed no interest in calling Giuliani as part of their quest to convince at least four Republicans to break ranks and vote to authorize a subpoena for outstanding witnesses and records.

The Senate’s 53 Republicans could ultimately call Giuliani as a witness without any Democratic support, though they haven’t given any substantial indication that they want to, either.

Notably, one of Trump’s defense attorneys, Jane Raskin, said during oral trial arguments Monday that Giuliani was just “a minor player” in the Ukraine scandal and that senators shouldn’t pay him much mind.

Bolton, meanwhile, has emerged as the most sought-after witness for Democrats in light of leaked excerpts of his forthcoming book saying that Trump told him in August that he wanted to hold up U.S. military aid to Ukraine until the country agreed to help him by announcing his desired investigations. The revelation undercuts the Trump legal team’s defense that the president had legitimate policy reasons for withholding the vital military assistance.

Off the top of my head, the only person who might possibly make me think less of "physical presence" is Johnny Gaudreau....

McConnell Says GOP don’t currently have enough votes to block impeachment witnesses

Tue 28 Jan 2020 22:54:18 GMT

The Wall Street Journal reporting comments from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell

  • says GOP leaders don't currently have enough votes to block impeachment witnesses
If so the trial might take a turn to become interesting. Note that 'currently' though … plenty of heads to crack before the final tally is reached.

Pretty much means Bolton is going to testify.

All part of the masterplan, I'm sure.

Trump needs to come out on twitter and start threatening primary challenges or thorough and extremely intrusive investigations into those that push for witnesses. That should keep the GOP in line on this.

Does Trump strike you as someone who enjoys being painted in anything less than a flattering light?

Isn't there something like 250 bills that have passed that house which Mitch McConnell refuses to table?

Yeah, don't take this personally but somehow I can't imagine myself pounding a fist on the table and exclaiming "Dammit! Former NHL goalie Rob Zepp warned me this would happen!" if Trump gets re-elected.

Oh, don't be shy.   I am sure you will!

Um, they have.  That legislation died at the desk of Moscow Mitch.  The GOP are why much legislation people want has died.

Not the way Trump will sell it nor the way the public will perceive it given where they get their news.   Your underestimation of him is a proxy of what works for him so well.

anyone else think this "Jolton Bolton leak" might be a setup for the Dems?  Bolton is well known to have been pushing for a attack on Iran, but Trump was always against it.  It's not out of the realm of possibility that Trump makes a deal with Bolton..........a hit on Iran for a lie on the stand.  The Dems have pinned all their hopes on Bolton, it would demolish them if Bolton gets in their and refutes everything that's been put forward by Dems.

puts me in mind of another provocative memory

something about "bodily fluids" from some movie parody on "love"

seems that rudy's logic contains as much integrity as the logic of that phrase in the movie

except rudy is apparently trying to actually live this all out in his real life

Yep.  That guy definitely doesn't look like he's familiar with soap or deodorant.  I wouldn't want to smell him either.

That would refute what Bolton described in his book though.. So I don't see that as a likely scenario.

You don't think he is loving the limelight and being able to point to how unfairly he is being treated?!    The guy is a walking poster for narcissism and is loving this.   He will milk this and make it his rally cry and float his boat all the way to 2024 on it.   Democrats have to get over Trump Derangement Syndrome and work at getting some actual legislation done that voters can embrace.   The best way to beat a narcissist is to ignore them.

Disagree if you will.   Don't say I didn't warn you when this happens again:

Totally agree Rob. The extent of the anti-Trumpers seems to be "How can you support him he is an idiot". The Dems have spent 4 years on Russian collusion and when that didn't work took on the Ukrainian influence peddling. Most of the American public isn't buying this BS. Their biggest concern is how to provide for the essentials of life, food, clothing and shelter. Trump appealed to them on this in 2016 and won. He will do so and will win again.

The Dems should have spent their last 4 years passing legislation that helps mainstreet. Instead they put forth a slate of left wing losers. The Dems certainly have access to any number of potential leaders who could have challenged Trump on a business level. A progressive business leader with a fiscally responsible plan could have challenged Trump.

IMHO it doesn't really matter who the POTUS is as world debt will overwhelm the status quo. The Dems in government accelerate the process and Trump simply delays it a little longer. The Americans are defending their $ as the currency for world settlements. The Chinese are promoting a basket of currencies and precious metals. The central banks of Russia and China are the biggest purchasers of gold in the world. If the Americans lose this fight it will undermine not just the stability of world debt markets but will also impact most trade relationships. It is one of the reasons why the USA is pursuing bi-lateral trade deals rather than supporting the WTO.
