I see....so your position is that the reporter is lying?

Would I be outraged if it were true.. ? A bit immature from a ranking official, sounds like something I might say as a joke

Wouldn't mind seeing some evidence for the claim though, found a related clip with your favorite Kellyanne commenting though !

Seen it. What's telling to me is that no-one in the administration has denied it happened. Not even "alternative facts" Conway.

I doubt that even the most studious of WH reporters know the names of all the administration staffers and I doubt that the administration would offer up the name of the guilty party. But hey, if "Fake News!" works for you, knock yourself out.

Personally, the amount of times that Bone Spurs says "Chines virus" or "Wuhan virus", makes me believe that a low level staffer would easily feel emboldened to use a racially offensive label. YMMV

It's just a fact of where it came from. He's obviously doing it on purpose to get a rise out of media and make them 'defend' China which certainly deserves any defending in their handling of this, and to clarify any propaganda about the military bringing it to China as the CCP claimed

Love me some outrage articles.. crazy people get paid to write this stuff

Trump’s new fixation on using a racist name for the coronavirus is dangerous

The president is stoking xenophobia with his rhetoric about the coronavirus.

https://www.vox.com/2020/3/18/21185478/coronavirus-usa-trump-chinese-virus

Ah yes Kung Fluu... still looking for the white house official that used the term : )

While I do not believe that Trump saying "Chinese Virus" is racist, it may be a little careless. The article is a bit over the top but you dont want to see innocent people, specifically Asians, being targeted by actual racists who blame them personally for the virus. I also say Asians because unfortunately many nationalities (Japanese, Korean etc etc) would  probably be mistaken for Chinese by some.

How can one deny it happened when no one knows who the claim is against ?  I can only imagine how many 'staffers' or 'officials' are in the white house that have a mind of their own and could have used the term off the cuff, but who knows really... only the accuser

Hopefully labelling it the Chinese virus brings light to stories like these where the CCP tried to shove warnings from health officials under the rug until it was too much to contain and had already spread globally

Quote

The death of Dr Li Wenliang has been a heart-breaking moment for this country. For the Chinese leadership it is an epic political disaster.

It lays bare the worst aspects of China's command and control system of governance under Xi Jinping - and the Communist Party would have to be blind not to see it.

If your response to a dangerous health emergency is for the police to harass a doctor trying to blow the whistle, then your structure is obviously broken.

It's not careless at all. He's doing it deliberately and consistently.

There's a purpose behind it and that is to deflect blame away from his poor response to the crisis. I agree that it isn't racist, but it's also far from careless.

I don’t see much dif between the USA response and Canada’s. Your hate for Trump has put blinders on your outlook.

A little careless and non-politically correct is what most should expect from Trump. Hopefully this brings about a more reluctant stance in trusting (depending on) China with an intertwined economy.

Nobody wants to see Asians targeted, perhaps he should call it the Chinese Government Virus, but I think continuing to harp on his usage of the term only exacerbates the situation which the media laps up and here we are talking about it.

Really? Has Trudeau or any of his staffers referred to it as the Wuhan virus? Chinese virus? Kung Flu?

Your support of Trump has put blinders on your outlook.

My comment was to do with the relative reaction to the virus. You stated that the USA had screwed it up and my comment was that I didn’t see much dif between the USA and Canada.

This type of rhetoric is dangerous and irresponsible. Just call it by it's name Covid-19 and stop the games. Chinese Americans are being targeted. People are wound up and afraid. Why wind them up even more by being irresponsible.

The first revenge killing in the United States after 911 was not a Muslim. It was a Sikh shopkeeper who was shot to death by an idiot who couldn't even identify who he was mad at. Some twit who is still rotting in prison walked into his shop and declared "I stand for America all the way" and shot him in the chest. Regardless of the fact that Sikhs have been persecuted by Muslims for 500 years.

Bottom line, don't rile up people on the edge. It's dangerous and innocent people wind up paying the price. Sometimes the ultimate price.

Maybe I am naive but I sit here over in Maui and always admire the society here that accepts all races equally. At least that is what I see on the surface. Usually those who dwell on race have a political agenda whether pro or con.

They did screw it up and there is a difference. Trump referred to it as a "hoax". He lied about having it under control. He admitted to wanting to leave a cruise ship offshore, to make his numbers look better.

Subsequent polls have confirmed that a significant portion of the American public believed his disinformation.

The Trudeau administration, while certainly not handling this perfectly, has been listening to experts since day one and have done none of the sort of dissembling that the Trump administration has consistently been employing, up until the time that it became obvious that their lies would no longer stand up under scrutiny.

There are no "blinders" you can attribute to me that will refute those facts. The two countries' responses are quite different, despite your assertions to the contrary.

US 10,810 cases 160 deaths

Canada 772 cases and 10 deaths

US population 2019 est   329.67 mill

Canada population 37.35 million or a  more than a tenth of the US population. Multiply Canadian cases and deaths by 10 and seems; at this early point Canada is doing better.

I do not know if that will continue though, as I've said it is very early in Canada's number curve/growth.

One has to ask why these orgs ever gained the influence they ever did. There is a obvious political agenda but also a business side that lives for the ‘taps’ they can generate for advertisers. When that doesn’t work anymore you pull a CBC and say you want to go advert free. The taxpayer can pick up the full tab for our BS.

The failure in in all of this is an electorate that is prepared to have someone else do their thinking for them and a political leadership that cannot communicate a philosophy that can evaluate issues with. I try to be a numbers guy. If the numbers don’t add up I am being sold a bill of goods and the salesman is a BS’er.

I don't know that this particular part is new, I think thats been around since the Greeks invented democracy.

I guess CNN is successful because it was first? That and the Gulf war was fascinating to watch in real time.

I don't care about different private outlets having different slants or agenda's, as long as everyone is aware of what they are. Its fine to have an opinion.

I don't like what CBC has become either. I'd love to see it scaled down to online content, radio and a 24/7 news channel that has some programming the way BBC does, sort of deep dives into issues or full-spectrum political panels. It doesn't do us any good to have a public station viewed as a lefty mouthpiece (regardless of how true that really is or not).

IMO to not be hypocritical, anyone that says they hate Trump should send the money back as should the ones that hate socialism... There, I just saved America billions as it would only leave a dozen or so people left to be assisted ;P
