They don't have it as bad, however, there is still a culture issue and it seems pretty ubiquitous for police forces in North America.

A good example is Kim Rossmo.

The fact that many have never heard of Rossmo is not a surprise, but it is disappointing. Rossmo is a Canadian Criminologist who used to work for the VPD. He is also the guy who pioneered geographic profiling. It was his work that identified the fact that a serial killer was at work in the lower mainland in late 90s.

The problem is, the genius of Kim Rossmo (and he is a genius) didn't sit well with the "establishment" of the VPD. They didn't like the fact that a "civilian" attained the position of Detective Inspector without "paying his dues", ie. working his way up from beat cop, through Sgt, etc.....

They also didn't like his ideas. (Think of Moneyball and how popular Billy Beane's ideas were with baseball establishment) When Robert Pickton was arrested, vindicating Rossmo's Geo-profiling techniques, it didn't make VPD brass take more kindly to him. In fact, it made it worse, because it showed that the resistance to Rossmo's methods delayed Pickton's capture, allowing him to kill additional victims. This was an embarrassment to KR's superiors and they were not happy about it.

Eventually, the animosity drove Rossmo out of the VPD in 2001. He moved on to Washington, DC, where his ideas were accepted. From there he moved to chair the Criminology department at Texas State University. Since moving to Texas, he has adapted hi geo-profiling  to counter terrorism, and epidemiology as well as further advancements in criminal investigative methods. His methodology has been adopted by the FBI and other high profile law enforcement organizations around the world.

And he used to be one of ours.....until some salty has-beens on the VPD drove him away...<_<

The old boys club is always resistant to new ideas and change.

Sheesh.

That's some bad leadership in that case.  Any good manager/leader knows to surround themselves with good people (worker bees).  It makes their job easier and makes them look better.  Sort of like how a group is only a strong as it's weakest link.

Like I said, some reforms are needed.  Probably good idea to get rid of the "Old Boys Club" mentality.  Times are changing and we need to change with it.  Look at Teleworking.  For years, it's been frowned upon.  But Covid-19 happened and guess what?  It works!!!  It should never be "maintain status quo" but find ways to continually improve.  That goes for any business/agency.

Why does it not surprise that he would say that?

All kidding aside, it's terrifying that someone with that much power would even think of something like that.  Let alone saying it :picard:

Holding an unnecessary indoor event with thousands of people expecting to attend it (In Florida rather than North Carolina where it was originally going to be held because the governor there essentially said "&^@# no") is ignoring it.

And if you think that the upcoming rally in Tulsa on Juneteenth is just a coincidence and not a nod to Trump's base, the city of Jacksonville being chosen for the RNC suggests otherwise.

Vancouver police ‘disheartened’ over decision to ban them from Pride events

The society now says “law enforcement, including correctional officers, are not welcome to march in the Vancouver Pride Parade or exhibit at our festivals.”

“The change that needs to happen will take time and until that happens and the systemic racism within policing is dismantled this decision will carry forward,” Vancouver Pride Society executive director Andrea Arnot told Global News.

Pathetic.

The same VPD that ignored what Kim Rossmo (as Rupert mentioned earlier) determined through geographical profiling, because they didn’t feel he deserved his designation because he hadn’t paid his dues?

The ignorance which essentially gave Pickton another few weeks to murder more prostitutes from the Downtown Eastside?

Not even surprised.  He isn't even attempting to hide his racism anymore.

So...Trumpkins....tell us again how CNN is "Fake News!".....<_<

https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/politics/fox-news-runs-digitally-altered-images-in-coverage-of-seattles-protests-capitol-hill-autonomous-zone/

Quote

Fox News published digitally altered and misleading photos on stories about Seattle’s Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ) in what photojournalism experts called a clear violation of ethical standards for news organizations.

As part of a package of stories Friday about the zone, where demonstrators have taken over several city blocks on Capitol Hill after Seattle police abandoned the East Precinct, Fox’s website for much of the day featured a photo of a man standing with a military-style rifle in front of what appeared to be a smashed retail storefront.

The image was actually a mashup of photos from different days, taken by different photographers — it was done by splicing a Getty Images photo of an armed man, who had been at the protest zone June 10, with other images from May 30 of smashed windows in downtown Seattle. Another altered image combined the gunman photo with yet another image, making it appear as though he was standing in front of a sign declaring “You are now entering Free Cap Hill.”

Fox’s site had no disclaimers revealing the photos had been manipulated. The network removed the images after inquiries from The Seattle Times.

In addition, Fox’s site for a time on Friday ran a frightening image of a burning city, above a package of stories about Seattle’s protests, headlined “CRAZY TOWN.” The photo actually showed a scene from St. Paul, Minnesota, on May 30. That image also was later removed.

Images are in the link....
