HockeyHarry
The NHL should hold team Management accountable for bad continuous seasonal play. 5 losing seasons and 5 years of having top 10 picks....should be enough for a team to make the playoffs.....on the 6th losing year the Management should be penalized by being forced to trade their top 10 pick.....for proven current NHL players that should help the Team improve the following season. The Oilers are in last place and could again could get the first overall pick......the Nhl should help the Oilers inprove by penalizing them....if the Oilers end the season in the bottom 10. they should be forced to trade there #1 pick for 3 seasoned nhl players that could help them next season......why should the Oilers get another top end young player with a long record of the Team Not improving and being so outa a playoff place......Management should be held accountable!! Tre Mac
That is on the owners of the franchise to ensure they employ competent individuals otherwise they lose revenue, aka money. Your suggestion has some merit and yes the Oilers should be penalized but hopefully McJesus just walks in 7years without winning a cup for that pathetic franchise, they have enough of them already. YEGCanuck
If the NHL penalized poor management the Oil would be bankrupt. There has never been a more pathetic pro-sport franchise. Kim Jong Lowe and CrackT personify bad judgement and bring a whole new meaning to the term futility.
HockeyHarry
If a Team was forced to trade a top pick there would be a crazy bidding war.....and the return players would help improve a team faster then the top prospect...and would Hold GMs accountable for bad management......wouldn't the Oiler do a better job if there was a fear of losing not only a pick but team revenue....and league revenue. The current Philadelphia 76ers beg to differ. So do the Cleveland Browns.

StraightFlush
I believe the penalty has generally been that management loses their jobs. Its the owners team. Kinda up to them to penalize their management I would think
Ghostsof1915
It's the owners responsibility to have good management. Could you imagine if government had failure standards?
