So Toronto and Ottawa are the first teams to have some of their home games televised in 4k. Here is a list of their games including the Toronto Raptors on TSN 4K and Sportsnet 4K,

I'm just wondering if Vancouver and the rest of the NHL teams will follow for the beginning of the 2016-17 season. Rogers Cable and Bell Fibe have offered their customers 4k set top boxes. The links are here: http://www.rogers.com/consumer/tv/4k and here: http://www.bell.ca/Fibe-TV/Promotions/4K-Receiver

I hope Shaw and Telus are both planning to upgrade their networks for 4k televised Canucks games.

If they do, it won't be till later this year or next year. However, the content will be very limited eg. a few hockey games per year. I dont think that is worth it to purchase a 4k ready HD box for $400-500.

I read on Shaw's discussion board that they might want to roll out 1080p channels first (channels are 720p at the moment). I would rather they do that to save us money from having to buy a 4k HD box. A 4k tv does a great job upscaling 1080p to near 4k quality.

Bought a 65" curved 4k Samsung a few weeks ago. Regular HD channels look more like 1080p, and 1080p youtube videos look pretty close to 4k.

how come netflix can deliver 4k without the need to purchase extra hardware boxes as long as you have a 4k tv?

and who even uses rogers cable anymore?

shaw and telus need to step up their game for sure.

i was pretty disappointed to find out that 4k hockey is not offered by shaw.

Because with netflix, you are streaming the 4k content. No need for extra boxes. However, this does take up quite a bit of data.

A 1080p stream would take 5gb/1hour. 4k needs 4 times the amount of data compared to 1080p, therefore, streaming a 4k video takes 20gb/1hour. If you have a data limit of 250gb, that equates to 12.5hours of 4k streaming. This does not include your regular internet usage.

So yes, it would be nice to have games in 4k, but i don't know if the price would be worth it if you have to purchase a 4k box ($400), and an additional $40-50 per month on top of your cable bill to get 1 or 2 4k games per month.

All I can say is don't buy a Vizio 4k TV. They are priced cheap and are of poor quality. BestBuy and Costco sell Vizio TVs but it's best to stay away from them. Samsung and LG are much safer.

Vizio is famous for selling the lowest quality TVs on the market. They win customers based on price alone. A 55" Vizio smart LED TV will cost sometimes half as much as a similar Samsung. You get what you pay for.

P.S. Vizios smart TVs track your viewing habits and share that information with advertisers who can track you by phone and other smart devices. Something broadcasters are not allowed to do but no laws exist to keep manufacturers from doing it.

Bought a 50inch Samsung 4k tv at visions for 1k.  From my brief online search it seemed like a good deal considering it's only a couple hundred more than the LED models.  Reg. price $1700, blown away at the picture.  Even watching seinfeld reruns is like dam...  Can't wait to watch Laine with the Sedins win the cup in 4k resolution.:bigblush:

I just cut my cable and couldn't be happier I still get every NHL game in 720p which is just fine for me. Technology will always just keep advancing and coming out with ways for us to spend our money on things we really dont need.  Its funny how when the first 720p tvs came out people were just blown away...but now years later 4k has arrived and all the sudden 720p is so old school.

My first TV after gradding Uni was a "awesome"  top of the line Sanyo 32" CRT boat anchor of a TV.  Thing weighed 100 lbs. And it was impressive back then. The average home TV was 21". The early 1990s were dark days.  Be amazed at the majestic beauty of the top of the line in home theater at the time:

Looks like Rogers, Bell Fibe and Bell FibreOp have designated channels for both 4k Sportsnet and TSN channels:

Rogers: Sportsnet 4K – 998

Rogers: Sportsnet ONE 4K – 997

Rogers: TSN 4K - 995

Rogers: TSN2 4K - 994

Bell Fibe: Sportsnet 4K – 1395

Bell Fibe: Sportsnet ONE 4K – 1396

Bell Fibe: TSN 4K - 1399

Bell FibreOp: Sportsnet 4K – 609

Bell FibreOp: Sportsnet ONE 4K – 617

Makes you wonder how Shaw is going to implement 4k since only the 600 and 700 channels are open. Telus is doing okay since their channels are in the 1000. I heard from a little birdy that Telus will roll out their 4k network in September of this year which is right before the 2016-17 NHL season, so stay tuned folks.
