Pre-Free Agency outlook express:

The Anaheim Mighty Ducks have made certain moves to attempt to fill holes deeply hollow. In is Niklas Hjalmarsson and Brendan Gallagher and unfortunately moved is Nick Merkley, Krister Andersson and Loui Eriksson.

Hjalmarsson will be expected to shore up a D line and penalty kill that was lacking quite defensively last season. Gallagher was acquired to help a lacking scoring top lines for Anaheim.

GMMB felt conflicted to move the likes of Merkley and Andersson especially, but felt it was necessary to fix some gaps. He is going into this season's free agency in hopes to spend much of his abundant cap to land a top winger.

Many sacrifices have been made to avoid a future cap crunch. Probably won't contend again this year but should be a solid playoff team for years to come. Still looking to get younger and add picks.

OTB:

Justin Schultz: 40+ points on the 2nd pairing last year, cheap cap hit of 3.250 for 1 year.

Devante Smith-Pelly: Good player, perfect middle 6 guy if you have extra cap for the next couple years.

You can try for the likes of Fowler and Burakovsky if you want but my demands will be astronomical.

André Burakovsky - Teuvo Teräväinen - Max Jones

Tobias Rieder - Leon Draisaitl - Travis Barron

Devante Smith-Pelly [A] - Nick Merkley - Niclas Bergfors

xxx - Jacob Josefson [A] - Rocco Grimaldi

Krister Andersson - Adam Larsson [C]

Cam Fowler - Justin Schultz

Jonas Müller - Steven Santini

Malcolm Subban

Red = Untouchable

The Rangers will not be making any more moves before the season. Really happy with the make up of the team this year. We really made it our goal to improve the bottom 6 and our back up goalie situation.

We are also super excited to lock up Captain Chris Kreider to a 6 year deal at a bargain of 5.5M a season as well as our leading scorer Evander Kane to a 3 year deal at 5.5M as well.

We brought in Dustin Byfuglien, Erik Haula and Patrick Berglund to shore up the bot 6. We plan to try out Byfuglien as our 3/4 RW and possibly as a net presence on the PP. Berglund and Haula will get some PK time. We promoted Ryan Gropp to full time 3rd line duty this year and will give Emile Poirier a chance to prove he is worthy of full time 4th line duty.

Mrazek will be great insurance for Vasilevskiy. Petr has been on a downward trend for the past couple years, we hope on a better team he can pick that up and turn in to a steady back up this year and moving forward.

Kreider - Monahan - Kane

Gusev - Zetterlund - Sherbatov

Gropp - Eakin - Berglund/Byfuglien

Poirier - Haula - Byfuglien/Berglund

Antipin - Vatanen

Myers - Severson

Sekera - Johnson

Columbus, Ohio

Yesterday a blockbuster deal between was completed between the Edmonton Oilers and Columbus BlueJackets, the deal sent Patrice Bergeron out east in exchange for a package of young assets.

Although ageing, Bergeron will slot in nicely on the first line alongside Brendan Saad and Jordan Eberle truly giving Columbus an elite first line. This move also allows Columbus to play Alex Wennberg on the second line which should improve their goal scoring depth.

Struggling goalkeeper Petr Mrzaek was also moved in a three way deal in exchange for prospects, Krystof Svoboda, and Tomi Ylijoki, although retaining 1 million was necessary Columbus was able to clear an additional 3 million of cap which will likely be used to address the need for a starter goaltender in free agency.
