I'm curious as to how long it will be before Eddy gets the PP2 back away from Myers.I believe Eddy plays a stronger role there then Myers. Is it a way for green to manage Eddys TOI ?

Soon, I hope.

I disagree, I like Myers' offensive ability more and the second powerplay has been very good. No need to change it.

As you mentioned this way we also reduce Edler's TOI. He's getting up there in age and it would be smart to maintain less ice time so he doesn't get as fatigued!

I have always thought Edler is under appreciated in our market.  The guy is the top defenseman ever to play for the Canucks. It is clear.

Thanks Edler for all your work for our team!!

How cool would it be if he hit 100 goals, 300 assists and 400 points in the same game.

In his 900th game?  I guess that would be a little too long to wait for 6 points

Amongst all the praise and attention our young stars are garnering this year, Edler is still the backbone of our defense in my opinion. He has my vote for the Unsung Hero Award this year.

Absolutely.  I can see us signing Edler to another contact when this one is done.  He’s very important.

I’ll admit, I was worried he was going to see a steady decline in usefulness at the end of last season. However, since the emergence of Hughes, he no longer takes those risky offensive pinches that he was getting caught on a lot because Hughes has taken that roll to be the primary offensive push from the back end. This has allowed Edler to now just be a really well rounded defenseman with strong defensive zone coverage and grinding along the boards. I can see us keeping him as a defensive specialist moving into his golden years.

And we’re going to add another elite young D man with offensive skills in Rathbone soon.  Eddy will have to take s lot less money, but if he wants to play that 6 th D man like Fanta is doing now he’d be fantastic to have IMO

Now that QH has taken the #1D role Edler can play in the #2-3D role that he's much more suited for. Still it's no coincidence that the team generally goes on losing skids whenever he's injured. Edler on the second pairing for this contract and then on the third pairing for one or two more years, please.

Underrated probably defines much of Eddie's career, to be honest. He's the backbone in a lot of ways and his veteran leadership is hugely valuable, but I would say that Hughes is our best defenseman overall.

Edler took a pretty good knock on the noggin, surprised the concussion spotters didn't pull him.

A healthy and well rested Edler will pay dividends in the play ins and beyond.

Even strength and on the PP

Of course the flipside to that is a noticeably worse performance on the PP. Last year he had 17 PP points in 56 games and he had just 7 PP points in 59 games this year. That's definitely the Quinn Hughes effect more than Edler himself though. Eddie doesn't get #1 PP time as much anymore.

Also worthy of note that he is no longer on the 2nd PP unit after his injury in November. Myers ran the 2nd PP and the 2nd PP was pretty decent, so Green never bothered changing the set up. So Edler is only out for PP if the Canucks are up a goal or two and late in the third, and they just throw him in as the extra-defenseman trying to prevent SHG against late in the game.

Hm, I didn't realize that. Given Edler's proficiency on the PP in the past, I do question that decision, even if Myers is alright. I'm sure Myers is fine, but I'm not sure he'd be better than Edler, especially with Edler's strong offensive vision.

Great read here.

Ben Kuzma: Chasing fitness fanatic Sedins could help Edler extend NHL career

Just hoping he retires a Canuck.  Great example for our young players with his commitment to fitness and continued improvement.
