Canuck Surfer
Thanks one more time to @Roberto Luongo., The Minister, @Ty Webb who traded us our traded player 2 years ago. The trade came on a realization that we had filled out our roster the last two years, by trading prospects or picks. And did not have enough of them for a natural push from our youth. We were going to be in the same boat this year? Something had to give. Marcus Folino gives us another roster body. One who still has upside, evidenced by his first few years in the NHL. He's still young, we'd like to re-sign him a long term Oiler after this year. And, combined with a player lost in expansion + Jeff Skinner, an extra $10 mill is available in cap to help fill out our team. Hopefully no more selling assets to do it? And we filled our prospect bank up with Derrick Pouliot, Rasmus Asplund who we really like & selected goalie Jake Oetinger. Thanks last to Jeff Skinner. Who blossomed as a top line scorer this year. Good luck in Detroit!

RL.
MOTOR CITY MADNESS The Red Wings are very pleased with their 2017 CDCGML Entry Draft Results. We managed to get the player we wanted in the first in Eeli Tolvanen. Initially, the Wings were looking to trade up to a position just outside the top 10 to get Eeli, but as fate had it, he managed to slip all the way to #20 overall - and there was no hesitation with the pick. The next pick slated for the Wings was 35th overall, but a last second trade went through netting the team that 43rd and 87th picks in the draft. With those picks, the Red Wings were able to select F Joshua Norris (43rd) and F Jonah Gadjovich (87th). The Red Wings were prepared to select Norris with the 35th pick, even having had prepared the draft card to submit to the league. But a last second offer got the Wings attention and we were still able to manage getting the player we wanted, plus another great piece in Gadjovich. Gadjovich was ranked 43rd on RL.’s draft list according to sources, so the Red Wings management team was very pleased to have selected him all the way down at #87. D Dylan Samberg was someone that the Red Wings had eyes on for some time, and with the majority of defenders being selected before the Wings picked at #43, we decided to not take any chances and pick their player with that pick. Some may argue that we reached with this pick, but we see Samberg has someone that could start contributing to our minor league affiliate in a few seasons, before pushing for a roster spot on our NHL team down the line. Last, and certainly not least, was the pick of F Mason Shaw. An undersized player, but someone who had made an impression on the Red Wings scouts for all the right reasons was not going to passed over with the opportunity presenting itself for the Wings to select him. A prolific scorer wherever he has played, the Wings are very excited to have him in the fold and hope that Mason can transition his game from the junior levels to the pros. 1st Round (20th Overall) - F Eeli Tolvanen (Sioux City - USHL) 2nd Round (41st Overall) - F Joshua Norris (USA NTDP - USHL) 2nd Round (43rd Overall) - D Dylan Samberg (Hermantown - USHSW) 3rd Round (87th Overall) - F Jonah Gadjovich (Owen Sound - OHL) 3rd Round (91st Overall) - F Mason Shaw (Medicine Hat - WHL) The Red Wings were not done there on Draft Night, pulling off one of, if not the biggest deal of the night, acquiring F Jeff Skinner from the Edmonton Oilers. A package of good young players went back in exchange, including F Rasmus Asplund, F Marcus Foligno and D Derrick Pouliot. The Red Wings had our eyes set on improving their scoring ability upfront heading into the offseason, and we feel we addressed that issue tonight with the acquisition of Skinner. Its tough to see players like Foligno and Pouliot go, as they were players brought in by this management team in order to build for the future. But the opportunity presented itself to get a player of scoring calibre, and with the recent group of prospects coming into the system, we felt that it was the right time to make a move. It’s tough to see a player like Rasmus leave the organization as well, being a selection of the club only a year ago. But in order to finalize deals players need to be moved, and we feel comfortable with the depth of our minor league affiliate that we can soften the blow. Still bolstering blue chippers Jakub Vrana, Kyle Connor, Jesse Puljujarvi and Jack Roslovic in the system, in addition to the players added tonight via the draft, the Red Wings are very excited about their future moving forward. If reports are true, there is another deal that has been agreed upon by the Red Wings pending league approval. Laying the ground work all week through preliminary talks culminated in an eventful Draft Day for the Red Wings. More moves are on the horizon as the Wings look to return to the playoffs.
