Youngstars 2016?

Recommended Posts

Anybody know if the Penticton tournament is going ahead this year? I went with my son last year and it was great time. I'm looking to do that again this year but haven't seen any announcements on it. Nothing on Canuck news or twitter feeds, nothing on the SOEC site.

Last year they had announced by mid-May, but I can't find anything about it this year.

I'm thinking it would be a good one, too. 4 of the top 6 draft picks would probably be in it.

If I were a betting man.... I'd say they're going ahead with it again this year.

Wish I could help more, but at the Casino.

Would Virtanen and Demo be there? I know no Boeser cause of Collage.

Demko yes, though Virtanen made the big club, so I don't think he would. Last year, after Horvat made the big club he wasn't required to go either.

What is interesting is they seem to allow 2nd year pros to play. This would mean Cassels/Subban/Sautner would be eligible, but we wouldn't have much support on the forward front. It's tricky making the lineup as it requires players under 2 years pro, no one college eligible, and no one who has made the big club. What I have as a roster at this point:

Zhukenov- Cassels - LaPlante

Stewart - LaBate - Jasek?

Sautner - Subban

Brisebois - Stecher

Olson - Neill

Demko

Gartieg

Much of the roster will be dependent upon 2016 draftees. It seems from the pipeline we could use a few more forwards.

Edit: Added Goalies

This is likely the reason why they haven't announced the details. They are waiting for the draft day to conclude, since there are a few Canadian teams that have a high draft pick this year, then later they can release information of the tournament that will feature the top prospects from this year's draft.

I'll be focusing more on the defence and the goaltending side of the line-up and whoever is our 5th overall plus Zhukenov.

Stecher, Jasek, Zhukenov and Demko more closely since I've seen them the least/if at all.

Well, since you're at a casino, I'm going to go ahead and assume that you are a betting man. And  it seems Vintage backs you up. So, cool.

Yes, Young Stars Classic is coming back to Penticton, BC this year. The Canucks will play against the Flames, Oilers and Jets from September 16th to 19th.

Thx, Vintage. It was tough getting hotel rooms last year (three major events on the same weekend) so I wanted to make sure it was going ahead and on which dates.

Again, thanks.

Hey thanks for posing the question man. I live in E-town too and was thinking the same thing taking my son to see the tourney.

Logistically this would make sense. Who wants to go to Red Deer though, not even RedDeerians do.

No kidding. The draw in Penticton isn't just the SOEC and its great arena, but also Penticton in the fall can be quite nice. Plenty to see around the area that time of year and the weather is great, plus wine country. Red Deer, well... not so much.
