UFC Sold for $4.2B

I'm doubtful that WWE is making the purchase. Other than the fact that Vince McMahon's net worth isn't anywhere near high enough for it, UFC is a huge source of friction between him and his son, Shane, and it's part of why Shane left WWE for years.

There are articles published by the Wrestling Observer talking about how Shane kept urging Vince to buy the UFC in the early 2000s when it was dirt-cheap (relatively speaking) only for Vince to turn down the idea.

There's almost no chance in hell Vince would make that purchase now, especially since Shane just came back to the WWE.

For the huge risks they are taking for their long term health, yes. Extremely underpaid.

Tate made all of 45K when she beat Holm in her last fight.

That is only what they report.  Do you know how much other money they make?

When Rampage Jackson was at his top, he was making roughly $1 million per fight.  All the top/big name fighters, make a ton and have never complained about money.

How much do you think Brock Lesnar is going to make from UFC 200?  He will easily make over $5 million.  Connor McGregor made $ 1 million in just his fight pay alone against Diaz!  Dan Henderson made over 800k in fight pay only from his last fight.

How in the world do people think UFC fighters don't make much?  You expect a new guy who just signed to make over 100k a fight?  Do rookies in the NHL make $ 5+ million right out of the gate?

No.  They do make half a million in salary, though.

Over 82 games, that's just barely over $6000/game...  Obviously hard to compare the the UFC to all the other pro sports league though.  Fighters control their fate, keeping winning and become a top fighter and you will get paid like one.

Connor McGregor rose to where he is in 2 years, and is now a star making huge money.  He was on Forbes 2015 list for the top 100 highest paid athletes.

He was the new face of a $4.2 billion franchise.  Of course he'll make the big bucks but the UFC really didn't pay that much.

You said it yourself. Only the top/big name fighters make any real kind of money. That list is quite small.

All others are left fighting for scraps.

You're seriously comparing hockey to the UFC? These guys could legitimately DIE in the ring every time they fight. Repeat blows to the head and body. Only goons in the NHL can say the same, but that era is now over. Even then the average fight lasted what...10-20 seconds, with a rare time a clean shot actually landed.

NHL league minimum salary is 525K annually. Most UFC fighters fight 2-3 times per year. Do the math.

The list isn't actually that small.  And again, to expect all the fighters to earn equal pay is ridiculous just like any other sport.  As I said, you control your fate, become a top fighter and a big draw and you will get paid well.  Rampage Jackson who was never the best, just a name, made $ 1 million a fight going back 5-6 years ago.  Nick Diaz made over 100k just to show up to a press conference to promote a fight.  If Diaz is making that much, how much do you think the other stars are making?

Then people try to compare it to boxers pay.  If you really actually think about, again only top big name fighters made huge money, mainly Pacman and Mayweather.  If you were on their card, you would make good money.  Otherwise you think all these Joe Blow fights that happen, are making millions?  Not a chance.

You on Dana's pay roll?

Point is for the risk, majority of the fighters are incredibly under paid. Especially with only a few fights per year.

You may not think so, but then again, willing to bet you haven't been knocked out cold with a severe concussion before.

NHL careers are also less susceptible to being prematurely ended or stalled due to injury.

MMA fighters also have a tougher road to the UFC, financially, and make the top ranks at a later age.  These guys absolutely deserve to cash in while they can and it's ridiculous to think otherwise.

Started watching it since the very 1st UFC. Had to go rent the VHS from this vid store on 108 and KG in Surrey back then. Watched every single one by renting the tapes.... Couldn't get it on ppv like we can now... Memories of my youth...

Can't believe it grew to what it did. Didn't really take off till the Ultimate fighter.. Amazing that it's worth 4+ bill now.
