KAMLOOPS - A man involved in a brutal fight on the North Shore, that has left an 18 year old brain dead at Royal Inland Hospital, has been charged with attempted murder.

Kristopher Teichrieb, 39, is in custody and expected to appear in Kamloops Provincial Court on Thursday, June 23, for a bail hearing.

The charges stem from a fight on Holt Street early yesterday morning, June 19. In a press release, RCMP says officers responded to a home after reports of a fight. A man looked out his window, saw another man in his driveway, and when he approached the man a fight ensued.

Teichrieb owned the home on Holt Street.

The man who was in the homeowner’s driveway was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries.

Not exactly a Trayvon Martin story but this boy was badly out matched size wise. I have met this man and am familiar with his physical size. His area has been hit with a lot of vehicle thefts recently so his feelings of vitriol are understandable.   But when something like this happens you have to let the police handle it. The local rumors are they are waiting for family to arrive and when they do he will be taken off life support. Murder charges will then be laid. Tragic.

Heart and prayers go out to the teen and his family. Hopefully, a miracle occurs.

Feelings go out to the family of the teen.

HOWEVER, this brings up the issue of people getting fed up with little help from the police or the criminals being released hours after being arrested on bail. Willing to bet this will slowly become a more common issue where people who are fed up with the system take the law into their own hands.

Probably not when it ends up with a murder charge.

Depends on the person. People confront car thieves with bats and knives all the time. Cops aren't always called if you get the gist. May sound immature and reckless, but when people are fed up, rationality gets thrown out the window sometimes.

so the teen stealing is good. i understand he should have called the police but there always two sides to a story. if some one breaks in your house u just watch him no u try to defend it. And also lets say somebody break in someones house the home owner grabs a knife and trys to find the person, the person quickly jumps with a gun the the home owner swings his knife killing the robber do u think the home owner should be charged with murder.?

On the one hand, kid probably didn't deserve that fate.

OTOH,  kid would never have been in that situation if he wasn't trespassing and /or attempting to steal a car.

Lose / lose for all involved unfortunately.

Pretty sure you just described self defense.

I'm sorry, but that's a pretty ridiculous thing to say.

The guy overdid it for sure, but the kid was on his property, likely trying to steal from him.

If anything, the charges should be lessened imo.

That's not how the law works in Canada so it's a moot point.  Not to mention a strawman.

If you trespass onto someone's property, you can be removed but the landowner can only use reasonable efforts to remove the trespasser.  Attempting to injure them immediately puts them into the "just trying to hurt someone and using their property as an excuse" category.

A guy standing in your driveway is also completely different from someone breaking in your house.  If you kill the former, you're just a murderer.  If you kill the latter, you have personal safety and self-defense alibis to fall back on.
