Derp...
Hamhuis was a big part of our cup run in 2011, and all teams need guys like him in their top 4. Juolevi does project to be a bit more offensive than Hamhuis was as well. Juolevi is also a big game player from what I've seen. WJC and OHL Playoffs Memcup, and now Liiga playoffs too.

Qwags
The Hamhuis comparison is perfect for Juolevi. Hammer in his prime was one of the best shutdown D-men in the league.

Rollieo Del Fuego
Hammer was tougher than Oli is likely to be....but Oli is bigger and can make passes (already) that Hammer could never think of trying. Much like Hutton...Oli just needs to grow up...at this point they are both just big kids trying to have fun for a living...a good dose of Playoff hockey would season them...! Need to ad some iron man qualities too. Can we throw in a little Linden or Henrik even though their forwards. We need to injury proof our d men. Popular Post Blömqvist
Apart from CDC, I've been scouring the interwebs for some scouting info and people seem to think highly of Olli Juolevi. In response to someone asking about Juolevi in a Miro Heiskanen thread a poster replies that Juolevi is "really solid, he's scored a couple of nice goals too." Another poster has this to say: "Miro Heiskanen and Olli Juolevi, so smooth and smart puckmoving Ds. Such a pleasure to watch these guys developing on every stride on the ice, especially for the keen and experienced eye of an older state man like me." In the Juolevi thread, a once critical poster of Juolevi said this: "I feel like I have to give some credit to the guy as I was very critical of him early on to his stint with TPS. He has improved a LOT. He always had the offense but he was a serious liability in their own zone. He's still not physical (probably never will be) but his positioning and effort have improved drastically. Not sure how he'll eventually adjust to NHL, but he doesn't look like a total bust to my eye anymore." Further to that, one poster says that Juolevi has "been reliable enough defensively" and has "been able to utilize his strengths." It will be a tough test for Juolevi as two of TPS Turku's top-4 defensemen (Tallinder and Heikkanen) are injured. With the amount of minutes he got last game, it looks like Juolevi will have to carry the load defensively this upcoming playoff round. -EDIT- Of further note, Cam Robinson of DobberProspects had this to say of Juolevi's Liiga season and current playoff success: "Juolevi and his TPS teammates took down SaiPa in the quarter finals of Liiga action earlier this week. The smooth-skating rearguard had two goals in the six games while seeing games of 20-plus minutes. It has been a successful season for the teenaged rookie defender as he finished his regular season with 19 points (7+12) in 38 games - good enough to be the second most productive U20 defender in the league (behind Miro Heiskanen)." Noble 6
Raising the level of play has been routine for Juolevi for the last couple of years now in the OHL Playoffs, Memorial Cup, WJC and now the Finnish league Playoffs. Really happy that he's able to do that. I think it would be nice if he could have some more games like that in the regular season though.

We have had plenty of players who do much better in the regular season than they do in the playoffs. It's high time we got some more Linden/Ohlund type playoff warriors. If that is how OJ plays, cranking up the intensity when it really matters, I'm just fine with it.

My guess is it just took him a season to adapt and play consistently at that level. Shouldn't be that surprising that it would take him time to adapt to a mens league. It's a big step up from the CHL. The fact that he's able to play 27-30 minutes in tight games is very encouraging.

Definitely. I think it speaks really well to his overall development this season that he’s been able to step up and eat those minutes with key veteran Dmen out of the lineup. Earlier in the year, TPS would not have given him this kind of load. They’d have tried to balance the minutes and likely distributed more TOI among their depth Ds. But now, and in the playoffs no less, they’re comfortable giving the icetime to Juolevi and asking him to carry their D. Which really speaks to how far he’s come and how successful this season has been for his development. If he can continue to thrive under the increased workload and pressure, it will bode really well for his ability to transition to the NA pro ranks next season. 3
