Reaction on the pick was quite negative around here initially I thought, The program he's coming from is known for producing players in the mid to latter rounds and most of what I read about him seems to be pretty positive. Head is up also, this guy has either been practicing all summer, or he's got massive skill ceiling. Reminds me of a bit Kane or Gaudreau with the quick turns and the quickness to then make someone look bad and roof a shot. We haven't had a prospect like this in a long time. Didn't see him listed on the USA Hockey website for any of the summer's earlier rosters/invites either. But he's hardly alone and several members of the 2016 U18 tournament squad aren't on the current summer showcase roster. He might have declined an invite in the preliminary stages (like if he wanted to focus on individual training and getting ready for college hockey) but more likely he was simply left off the list to make room for incoming players (as part of usual year to year transitioning).
