"Displays soft hands, quick moves and a persistent forecheck. Never stops flying around, and is difficult to get a bead on. Handles the puck very well at top speed, and can turn tight and separate from opponents. An under six footer with an average frame, he can be knocked of the puck, but is strong on his skates and the puck most of the time. A battler who plays fast with quick mitts."

"#88 William Lockwood, Right Wing, US NTDP (USHL) 6’0″ 171 lbs

A second line player on the US NTDP, Lockwood scored 33 points in 51 games this season. He added seven points in seven games during the Under 18s. He will play NCAA hockey for the Michigan Wolverines next season.

Lockwood is an outstanding skater. He has a great first step, excellent acceleration, and elite top end speed. He uses that speed to create opportunities off the rush, taking defenders wide and going to the net. He can also use the defenceman as a screen and unless a quick wrist shot. Lockwood is a straight line player, who is not very creative with the puck. He could stand to work on his puck handling; as well as his vision and passing skills."

Seemed pretty creativeto me at the WJC's.

Sounds like a great kid

-Was extremely honored to be drafted by Vancouver

-Likes the organization

-He believed he would get drafted somewhere around the 3rd or 4th round.

-Says he's a player that loves to get in on the forecheck

-Says his skating and his speed stands out in his game, tenacious.

-Loves to play physical, makes it easier on the team by constantly attacking the puck carrier and causing havoc

-Plays a smart, offensive game

-Grew up in Michigan, was a no brainer for him to commit to University of Michigan.

I like it that he's not afraid to shy away from the physical side of the game despite his size (5'11, 182lbs). He's a hard worker, smart, plays an offensive game, great skater, and tenacious. Screams a Brendan Gallagher imo. Just not douche.

I'm sure that's not what you meant to say.:o

Geez, I wonder why that guy's threads were all locked. Reaction on the pick was quite negative around here initially I thought,  The program he's coming from is known for producing players in the mid to latter rounds and most of what I read about him seems to be pretty positive.

Just watched the Prospects Camp video, his skating is fluid, fast, on point, hands too. Head is up also, this guy has either been practicing all summer, or he's got massive skill ceiling. Have to see if he can do it under pressure, and under physical punishment and fatigue.

I'm getting pretty impressed by this pick. He seems to me to have more going for him compared with a lot of prospects we've had in the past. After seeing what's happened the first couple of years of Benning's drafts, it seems like night and day compared with Gillis or Nonis.

That dangle at the beginning of the highlight video is just so dirty and filthy, the player he went around should get tested.

Reminds me of a bit Kane or Gaudreau with the quick turns and the quickness to then make someone look bad and roof a shot.

We haven't had a prospect like this in a long time. The fact he has a bit of an edge to him makes me smile.

Was Lockwood invited the WHC showcase for USA?

Doesn't appear so. Didn't see him listed on the USA Hockey website for any of the summer's earlier rosters/invites either. But he's hardly alone and several members of the 2016 U18 tournament squad aren't on the current summer showcase roster.

He might have declined an invite in the preliminary stages (like if he wanted to focus on individual training and getting ready for college hockey) but more likely he was simply left off the list to make room for incoming players (as part of usual year to year transitioning).

This kid likes contact, he's gritty. I wouldn't really compare him to Hagelin at all based on what little I've seen and read. I dunno, maybe Tommy Wingels would be a fair comparison?

The only thing Tommy Wingels likes about contact is an opportunity to fake being tripped.
