Brett McKenzie | C

Battalion coach Stan Butler said during the summer that he expected McKenzie to take on a front line scoring role this season. And long time followers of McKenzie (like Brock Otten) suggested that this player had significant untapped offensive potential. McKenzie was once considered one of the top minor hockey players in the GTA (and he produced nearly two points per game during his final year of midget).

All the signs were there that this kid could be a gem. And it appears like things are now coming together (at least based on these early returns).

There were very good reasons to be excited about this pick. Although even the most optimistic of us likely wouldn't have predicted this kind of a start from McKenzie.

Hopefully he can keep rolling. He's bound to cool off a bit but I think he's still capable of posting some big numbers this season. Nearly all his points last year were scored at even strength and while deployed in a more defensive role. With more offensive focus, including power play time, McKenzie might just be headed for a massive D+1 season (or D+2 since he was drafted in his second year of eligibility).

My favorite late round pick this year. (Sorry not very sold on Stukel).

Watch a few highlights uploaded on twitter of him and I like the style he plays. Is a more north-south grinding style that has a higher chance to translate to a bottom 6 role in the NHL. I think this guy will become what we hoped Kyle Petit will become. Don't see any offensive prowess from him yet so my guess is his absolute ceiling right now is a 3rd line Defensive Specialist C or LW. Seems to have a good physical edge against defenders that result in turnovers that he cash in on. (He is 6'2 198lb according to Eliteprospects aka not up to date). Decent shot that can score on OHL goalies.

Like this gamble, seems like a depth prospect that is likely to get an ELC at least from Canucks. Look forward to see him play more,

Ill admit I have not seen much of play aside from the highlights packages and that I always am cheering for late rnd picks to turn into something.

That being said everything I have read about him, his team/coach, and the systems they play has me very high on this players potential. If he can maintain a greater than a 1 ppg through unt the end of the year given the stingy defensive system his team plays, I am of the opinion this will be a solid middle 6 NHLr for us down the road.

this was 3rd game in 3 nights against a top team in OHL.

He's known as a sluggish skater in his second gear. but he has an excellent first gear especially early in the game

so i was expected real sluggish game from him but to my surprised, he had a great game

this is probably my favorite game so far.

tons of shots 8 probably couldve had few more

had a ton of scoring opportunities but was shut down by their rookie goalie Cole Ceci (younger bro of Codi)
