Time Capsule - Prediction Thread for 2016-17 NHL season

Canorth

Recommended Posts

I noticed people were starting to make predictions in the old 2015-16 Time Capsule Thread so I thought I'd start a new one.

The rules are the same:

1) Everybody gets 1 post (please be honest) in which they are allowed to post their prediction for the upcoming season.

2) This post can be edited as much as you like right up until 6:00 PM October 15 - opening night against the Flames.

3) After 6:00 PM on October 15th, the thread will be locked, sealed and pinned by a moderator only to be opened again once the Vancouver Canucks have played their last game of the season (when ever that may be). This will hopefully fuel some interesting discussions at the end of the season.

4) Please, NO DISCUSSION WITHIN THIS THREAD. It will only get messy.

5) You can include anything you want in your post and it doesn't have to be just about the Canucks - standings, line-ups, trades, proposal predictions ect..

Ok here we go:

Pacific Standings:

Anaheim

San Jose

Los Angeles

Calgary

Vancouver

Edmonton

Arizona

Overall Western Conference Standings:

Nashville

Anaheim

Chicago

Dallas

St. Louis

San Jose

Los Angeles

Minnesota

--------------

Calgary

Winnipeg

Vancouver

Edmonton

Colorado

Arizona

NHL Predictions:

-Nashville will get the #1 seed of the Western Conference, but lose in the 1st round of the playoffs

-Ottawa will be finishing 30th Overall.

-The Leafs and Oilers make minimal improvement, which leads to pundits claiming that their Dynasties are simply right around the corner from starting.

-The biggest name traded will be RNH, and he will be traded in a deal to Minnesota that has PC getting swindled once again in a 1 v 1 swap for Matt Dumba.

-The Stanley Cup Final will be Anaheim vs. Washington, with Washington winning it all and Ovi finally getting his cup.

Awards Prediction:

Hart: Jamie Benn

Art Ross: Jamie Benn

Rocket Richard: Alex Ovechkin

Vezina: John Gibson

Norris: Roman Josi

Calder: Patrik Laine

Jack Adams: Peter Laviolette

Conn Smythe: Braden Holtby

Vancouver Canucks Predictions:

-Canucks will finish 5th in the Division and 11th in the Conference and miss the playoffs.

- Henrik and Daniel will stay relatively healthy this season, but show regression. Still, they will be the leading scorers with Daniel netting 36G 32A, for 68PTS, and Henrik netting 13G 51A for 64PTS.

-Loui will net 25G and 28A for 53PTS. Overall though, his season will be "eh" and the fans will start to question the deal.

-Bo will put up 20G and 23A for 43PTS, all while playing responsible two-way hockey, and gaining a letter on his sweater by season's end.

-Sven will be hot and cold, netting 16G and 25A for 41PTS.

-Sutter will come back and play so-so, ultimately will end up getting traded to the East for a 2nd round pick, and B prospect.

-Dorsett will not finish the season with the Canucks

-Etem will struggle, and will find himself in the pressbox most nights. He will ultimately be either traded or waived.

-Hutton will experience a sophomore slump, seeing his points decrease in the low to mid 20 range.

-Tanev will be a rock, but Gudbranson will experience Luca Sbisa syndrome.

-Virtanen will be the knight in shining armor, breaking out towards the end of the season like Bo did, and ultimately end up with 15+ goals and 35+ points after a slow start to the season.

-Miller and Markstrom will both be adequate, but neither exceptional. This will result in Demko getting 1 or 2 games in towards the end of the season.

-Burrows stays, and retires at the end of the season.

And finally, after missing the playoffs, a few days into the offseason, Willie D will be fired from his head coaching position of the Vancouver Canucks. Jim Benning will remain.

And then hysteria will ensue on CDC.

Im going all in, betting the stack.  Today chicken tomorrow bone.  Bet heavy sleep on the street if I lose.

Everyone is predicting failure, just like in '82 and just like they did vs the flames in '94.

Im predicting the Canucks will be the 2017 playoff cinderella team.  They will sneak in to 8th spot in the conference and they will go on a run - galvanised by the fact that nobody believed in them. They will make it to the finals where they will lose.

Bo, Baer, Edler, Hutton and Eriksson will have career years in terms of points.

Sedins with 70+ points each.

Gaunce will get 10+ goals.

We will see the emergence of Markstrom as a true #1

Stetcher will be called up part way through the season  and stick with the team.

Boeser will join the team in the playoffs, after his college year is over, but will not play.

Look for your white towels, you are going to need them.

1. Canucks miss the playoffs and finish near the bottom of the West(unless they have a very high PDO)

2. Willie D gets fired at some point during the season or shorty after the season ends

3. Jordan Subban gets traded at some point between now and the 2017 NHL Draft

It's going to be an interesting campaign.

Tampa-Boston-Montreal- Detroit-Ottawa-Florida-Buffalo-Toronto

NY Islanders-Washington-Pittsburgh-Philadelphia-NY Rangers-New Jersey-Columbus-Carolina

Nashville-Chicago-St Louis-Dallas-Winnipeg-Minnesota-Colorado

Ducks-Sharks-Canucks-Oilers-Kings-Flames-Coyotes

Didn't put much thought into those. Some close some way off.

Canucks challenge for 2nd but settle for 3rd in our division.  Best case scenario rather than worst.

Daniel Sedin scores 31g and 44a.        They were on a good pace the previous season before injury. I expected  a similar

Henrik scores 21g and 51a.                   pace with Loui. No real chemistry and top D matchups still. Tough year!

Eriksson with 30g and 39a first and last goal of season. Same here. No chemistry after the Worlds? Where did it go?

Gaunce steps in and plays a solid season.   Yep! Solid role player. Just needs to contribute offence.

Rodin returns later and gets 0.8 ppg the rest of the season.  Ouch for Rodin. Too early just for "a look" Too bad!

Baertschi gets his 20 goals.    Close.

Larsen impresses but gets injured; Stecher steps in and also impresses. Larsen returns and continues playing well.    Larsen played adequately until his injury. The return, not so much. Stecher was an obvious one.

Tryamkin takes some time but plays solid by seasons end. Hopefully he comes to camp in shape. He has the makings of top player in the League.

1 big trade no-one saw coming.  At the start of the season no one would have expected the return for Burrows.

Sbisa, Edler, Larsen, Dorsett, and Burrows will be this seasons scapegoats by the negative whiners. Burrows was replaced by Megna. Add Loui and Willie. The Sbisa hatred died down a little. The Sedins?!!??? It's pretty sad when two of our best players ever are targeted for not being as good as they used to be. 36 years old and still taking most of the top defensive pairings most of the season. If we can get a solid enough season out of Bo's line next season, then the Sedins might get easier matchups and could still be effective for us.

Three Canadian teams in the Playoffs.  Five, even better.

Annoying posters, who have popped up and established themselves as regulars on CDC, will conveniently and coincidentally come to the rescue of the refs and NHL whenever they are discussed in any thread. The ref, NHL, and DoPeS apologists are always lurking.

A donkey is genetically manipulated and conceives a winged offspring. The ugly little bugger can't fly but if you throw it up it can glide for a short distance. The Canucks win Lord Stanley's Cup. WW3 is thwarted by aliens. I added the WW3 reference to make sure that it was an obvious joke and anyone who took it seriously needs some kind of help. Although aliens could have thwarted WW3 and kept it all quiet. You never know!

Alright, should be my final predictions.

The Sedins hit 60 points. Age starts to really show, but they still produce.

Eriksson hits 30 goals.

Baertschi breaks out with about 20-25 goals, 40 points.

Horvat also breaks out with around 20 goals, but 50 points.

Virtanen starts in the AHL, gets called up halfway through season.

Sutter stays healthy, gets 20 goals, and 40 points. Does better then Bonino.

Burrows is the 13th forward. Doesn't crack 10 goals, but gets a very emotional send off.

Dorsett lost in expansion draft.

Granlund has much better season. Shinkaruk underwhelms.

Gaunce makes the team.

Edler has decent season, gets 30 points.

Gudbranson becomes a staple on our blue line, fans love him.

Tanev is his same old reliable self.

Hutton hits Sophomore slump, but shows improvement as season progresses.

Larsen becomes the new Weber.

Sbisa continues to improve.

Miller is average. Posts about 910%.

Markstrom takes over as starter by the end of the season, shows great improvement.

Vancouver greatly improves, but narrowly misses the playoffs.

Utica does better this season.

Edmonton sucks a little less, still misses playoffs.

Toronto just sucks.

Calgary misses the playoffs.

Montreal misses again, Bergevin and Therrien are fired and lynched.

Ottawa and Winnipeg squeak in. Sens still call for new owner.

Chicago declines more, gets another first round exit.

LA also declines, but makes it to round 2.

Tampa Bay gets back into the finals.

Anaheim and San Jose make the playoffs.

Nashville wins the west, goes far in the playoffs.

Arizona misses the playoffs.

Florida declines a lot with their new blue line.

Pittsburgh wins division.

No Canadian team makes it out of round 1.

-Canucks finish the season 40-32-10, which is good for 90 points.

-We snag the last wild card spot and lose in the first round in 6 games.

-Tampa Bay wins the Stanley Cup of course. Tampa VS MTL in the ECF, Nashville VS STL in the WCF.

Horvat scores 21 goals and gets 33 assists, 54 point year.

-Canucks make no trades at the deadline (woah bold)
