Time Capsule - Prediction Thread for 2016-17 NHL season

Canorth

Recommended Posts

Tough to predict until we know what free agents are coming.

But here's my predictions.

-Horvat has another 40 pt season. But this time as a 3rd liner with less minutes so that's huge.

-Etem has a career year

-Virtanen really steps it up

-Baertschi flatlines again until mid season

-Tanev has a career year in goals

-One or both of Dorsett/Sbisa gets shipped out

-Canucks still can't score enough but with a top 6 that doesn't include Biega-Bartkowski or Sbisa-Hutton or any other awful illogical pairings, they end up on the winning side of a lot more 1 goal games

-Canucks make the playoffs and get to 2nd rd

SJS

VAN

EDM

ANA

LAK

CGY

ARZ

Tryamkin proves all doubters wrong.

Gudbranson becomes fan favourite.

Hutton scored 3 goals before Christmas.

Juolevi impresses at camp and gets 9 games. He plays well enough to stick around but ultimately gets sent back down to the Knights.

Virtanen sticks with the team. Maybe not at first, but by the half way mark he will be up to stay for good.

We will have both top 10 PP and SH%.

One of Edler or Tanev get dealt this year. Hopefully Edler, unless we get a Hall like offer for Tanev.

Sbisa sticks around to be exposed to Vegas in the Offseason.

Biega plays no more than 5 games.

We beat Lucic and the Oilers in a quick 5 game series. All games within 2 goal deficits.

We lose to SJS in round 2 in OT in game 7.

Everyone finally has hope again.

Yanik Weber scores 10+G for the Press and CDC explodes and calls for Bennings head.

TBL beat SJS for the Stanley Cup

Pacific:

1. Anaheim Ducks - 101

2. San Jose Sharks - 100

3. Los Angeles Kings - 98

4. Arizona Coyotes - 85

5. Vancouver Canucks - 84

6. Calgary Flames - 78

7. Edmonton Oilers - 76

The Ducks will continue to be dominant in the regular season, Sharks will do pretty well building off of last year, LA will have another solid year, Arizona will make some small gains, Canucks will be a bit better but still fall out of the playoffs, Calgary will stay the same, and Edmonton will still be too young despite McDavid.

On just the Canucks side -

Miller's play will be mediocre at best, with some slight recession from last year.

Eriksson will be a great addition, and he and the Sedins will be one of the best first lines in the Western Conference.

Horvat will score 50 points.

Edler will be better but still not be as good as he once was.

Gudbranson will be a bit disappointing.

Tanev will continue to show why he's one of the best defensive defenders in the league.

Brandon Sutter will be great until he yet again gets injured.

All in all, we won't make the playoffs and will a bit lower than the middle of the pack. (Probably 18th-22nd)

We're better then we were last year, but not by too much. Eriksson will be our biggest new asset, but if the team still can't score goals, we can expect a good draft pick coming up next draft.

And finally, everyone will want Willie or Benning to be fired at multiple points throughout the season but will instantly change their minds when things pick up.

And also another disappointing trade deadline.

Sedins score in the 60-70 point range despite worries about age.

Sutter plays 70+ games and nets 40 points give or take

Tanev is healthy and is a rock on the back end.

Gudbranson becomes a fan favorite and gets an A on his shoulder

Miller declines and is moody as hell

Markstrom plays more, small improvements are seen.

Canucks sign Loui Eriksson who scores 28 goals and is considered one of the bet players of the season.

Edler is healthy but unimpressive and prone to mistakes and turnovers.

Horvat takes another step and scores 20 goals for the first time.

Tryamkin is the biggest surprises and is easily the best Canucks rookie and one of the better d-men by seasons end.

Dorset fades away as does Burrows.

Grandlund's value is realised as a solid two way center and PK man.

Virtanen spends some time in Utica but impresses with the big club and is a regular  by seasons end.

Sbisa is the whipping boy

Hansen is his typical self and moves up and down the line up all season.

Beartchi makes small improvements with his play without the puck, nets 15 goals.

Rodin plays well, nets 18 goals.

Etem plays 4th line minutes, nothing special. His last season with the team.

Canucks are in the hunt for a Wild Card spot until the end of the season.  Miss in the last month due to injuries.  They pick 13th in the draft.

Miss playoffs by 2 points conference losses late in season due to key Injury's an major goal scoring slump

young guys continue to show break out signs after TDL but struggle down stretch to our rivals in Edmonton,Coyotes an Calgary

the coach loses his veterans in March an again we lament the bottom feeder title

One free agents an now this upcoming draft JB is also under the gun

the team he has assembled to many tweeners an bottom 6 . This will no get the job done in the newly turbo charged Pacific Conference.

Sedins crack 70 points

Sutter 50 points

Bo Ho. 42 points he has shown 2 nd line production playing third line

the bigger better D is better but the offensive talent proves still to Achilles heel to the Canucks.

Bottom 5 on forward are challenged to score in WD system which puts in jeopardy WD job, as he cannot line match yet an 3-3 still sucks under his coaching .He will be sacked just before next draft.{smoke screen for JB to kick can down road one more year}

Fans wear brown bags towards end of season to show displeasure .

Canucks finish dead last. A Sedin gets injured early season and the team falls apart. Canucks trade away Vets such as Edler, Miller, Hansen, Sbisa at deadline. Willie fired and we go into more of a rebuild phase. Canucks end up dead last with 70 points.

The good

Horvat 20g16A

Baertschi 18G23A

Rodin 25G 12A

Sutter 18G 25A

Markstrom plays like a #1

Vitanen 15G 12A

Eriksson 28G16A

Hutton 2G 30A

Gudbranson 7G 14A

Edler 6G 24A

Hansen 17G 20A

D Sedin 25G 22A

H Sedin injured but gets 14G 20A

Stetcher gets some games and gets 3G 15A

Canucks play well but don't have enough depth for top player injuries. End up dead last and lose the Jackpot (because Canucks aren't allowed first round pick, Bettman). Canucks look forward to next year and sign some free agents. They bring up their blooming prospects and look better the year after.

2017 Roster

Daniel-Henrik-Boeser

Baertshi-Horvat-Eriksson

Granlund-Sutter-Virtanen

Labate-Gaunce-Rendulic

Dorsett-Carcone

Juolevi-Tanev

Guddy-Hutt

Tryamkin-Stetcher

Pedan

Markstrom

Bishop(or another aging goalie a team wants to dump for cap space)

The team is going to suck this year but in a couple or few it could be good but Canucks need a new top line centre and LW to replace the Sedins and soon.

Low hopes for this year

Oh but Tryamkin hits Mathews through the glass to make the year worth it and pisses off Toronto

Canucks are going to finish with a dead even 100 points, good enough to make into the playoffs in the number 7 seed.

Western Conference:

Pacific:

1. Anaheim      112 pts.

2. Arizona        103 pts

3. Canucks    100 pts.

Central:

1. Dallas          109 pts.

2. Nashville      107 pts.

3. St. Louis     106 pts.

Wildcards:

7. Chicago      101 pts.

8. Edmonton     99

Shocking everyone, San Jose will miss the playoffs.

Burrows has a rebound year, potting 18 goals and getting 23 assists.

Sutter's health permits Horvat to flourish in an offensive role where he scores 25 goals and gets 28 assists.

Sutter also does reasonably well offensively, getting somewhere between 30 and 40 points.

Hutton explodes offensively with 10 goals and 23 assists.

Edler also explodes and hits 51 points.

Miller does not get traded, has a stellar year and goes into free agency.

The Sedins show no signs of slowing down, each getting between 70 and 80 pts, both reaching the 1,000 pt milestone sometime this season

Louie Erickson does exactly what we got him to do, scores 40 goals and has points in the same range as the Sedins.

Virtanen plays a majority of the season for Utica.

Granlund finds himself on the wing for most of the season and finds an offensive touch.

Austin Matthews scores 4 goals in his NHL debut in a losing effort.

Connor McDavid wins the scoring title.
