Be very careful referencing Eriksson in any negative tone.  Apparently he has rebounded and if you disparage him it is because you hate him.  Problem is the numbers have never supported him. Go figure. Here's his last five games.  MacEwen, Bailey or Lind couldn't accomplish this?

Agreed.  Loui getting to play with two top players in Pearson and Bo is terrible coaching.  Clearly LE should be sent to Utica.  IMO LE has a gentleman’s agreement with Aquilini.  He will retire after his July 2020 bonus, in exchange for the Canucks not sending him to Utica.

Exactly. Eriksson needs to sit. Hopefully the whole purpose of playing him is to raise interest in a trade. One can dream.

Loui cooling back down is a positive development. Had he continued to play decently, he may have thought that maybe he can still play in the league after this year. With him continuing to struggle, the potential of him making a prideful retirement at the end of this year because he realizes he is no longer up to NHL-par becomes more and more likely.

Well the "Empty Net Specialist" will finally get moved off the line with Bo Hovart now that Tyler Toffoli is on board. It's  still troubling that he;s even on this team considering JB mentioned he wants to call up from within.

Where are all his defenders now that his being on a top line was a flop? Time always exposes weakness up front and it has. No different this time.

Haven't been healthy this year is why he's still on the roster. It's saved him from Uitica IMO. Why he's still be in the lineup...well we do need PK'ers. That said, hopefully Toffoli is another nail in that coffin. I personally prefer what Mac has been bringing to the team as well. But again, with Schaller now moved we do still need players to PK. I believe Motte's back soon though which hopefully equals press box for Loui.

I'm at my wit's end with this guy. Even if he hit the gym like a fiend, talked to a sports psychologist, and practiced for 6 hours a day. I'm not sure even that would revive his career. I don't think I've seen a player fall off a cliff this bad since Johnathan Cheechoo. (Who oddly enough was good in the KHL after he left the NHL/AHL)

Last game he pretty much went from not a liability to being a liability. He missed 2-3 clear cut scoring chances (Pretty sure Zack MacEwen would have scored there). He also was outmuscled and coughed up the puck 2-3 times.

If he's going to cost the team games. Send him to Utica, and leave him there until he figures it out, retires, or his contract expires.

There is no way any GM is going to take him off our hands, not at nosediving production, and $6 million per season.

Maybe if you added a prospect you don't want to give up, or a very high draft pick (i.e. First rounder), but that's not happening.

After his bonus is paid this summer he's only got $5m left owing, or effectively, $2.5m per season. That becomes a LOT more movable. Retain 50% and that shrinks to $1.25m. Take back an AHL'er on top of that (preferably a C so Utica has some added C depth) at around $1m that can be buried and not effect the cap and that effectively becomes a few hundred K of actual cost for the other teams owner to upgrade from an AHL'er to a fringe, depth NHL'er.

We've been saying this for 4 years now.  It's irrelevant and pointless, we need wins now and this guy is costing us games now.  Who cares how much he makes and when he makes it.

You all know  what the definition of "insanity" is, right?

The only time that retiring/moving LE has ever made any sense is this coming July.  The $ is finally within a reasonable range of seeing the back of him.

If he is costing the team wins, then sit him until the end of season (including playoffs); even if it means Utica; and them move him after July.

Well, I never...

Days later and I'm still flummoxed by the fantastic flub by Loui on Wednesday. A gaping, yawning net complete with detailed instructions on how to execute a bullseye goal, and the man fudges that simple task in astonishing failure.

Loui's gifts as a player transcend description.

At this point one would think that sitting Eriksson makes the most sense. Whatever rabbit's foot he brought to the line with Horvat and Pearson no longer is working. For an up and coming team to be spotting him a coveted top six role, when others on the team are more deserving, and at the very least bring more dimensions to their game, is ridiculous.

Okay, so there's a method to encouraging Loui to retire this summer.

#1. We need his mailing address

#2. We sign him up for EVERY piece of literature that we can, including email mailing lists about retirement living / communities / you name it.

#3. We send @Alflives to visit him and "encourage" him, that he'd find the fan base, much happier with him, if he wasn't actually on the team....

Nothing illegal, just some gentle nudging....maybe call BC Hydro and tell them that he's moving....:)

I hear a lot of talk about somehow getting sweetness to retires this summer, and that’s all well and good, but what if he doesn’t want to? Assuming he wants his bonus paid out this summer, and assuming he still wants to play hockey, why can’t the two sides terminate his contract after July 1st so he can sign with another team at a good price a la Kovalchuk?

Is there a reason people don’t mention this option? It’s all, ‘retirement,’ or, ‘trade with a sweetener/salary retention.’

The reason it's not mentioned that much (and the same reason I don't think retirement is realistic) is that it involves Eriksson straight up walking away from millions of dollars and job security. I think he at best would get a contract for about $1M if he was a free agent and even then, his stock has fallen so far I'm not sure he gets even that if he terminated his deal with us.

I wonder how playing out his final 2 yrs in Utica would sit with him?

I think he takes his massive bundle of $ he's made already +3m bonus, sells his house in Vancouver for +++millions and heads back to Sweden.  He could easily get a contract from a SHL team and continue playing for a few  more years.

I think though that mutual termination is as likely as retirement. And what’s more is after he takes his bonus I think a team would take him for 1.5 million for one year. I think he’s worth it. Our dislike is based on not having performed to his cap hit/salary. He could play a good defensive game and he wouldn’t have the 6 million dollar cap hit expectation. He could take the money and run, but to a different team with far lower expectations that end his career on a more positive note.

Exactly what I'm wondering.. He's made 55M career earnings and gets another 3M SB on July 1st.

I can't imagine he wants to ride the bus in the AHL for 2 years just to make another 5M, I guess it depends on how comfortable he is in his life.

$31,000,000 for 88 points. He owes the team a mutual termination.
