Loui Eriksson | #21 | LW/RW

Just a reminder that its understandable that you would be upset at Loui because his cap hit restrained us from signing guys and you can be upset by the lack of production he brings, but don't blame him for the contract that was offered to him.  Blame the guy(s) who offered this crippling contract to him.

It always saddens me to see how much people can fail to separate the hockey issue from the human side. When I see people wishing some serious ill upon Eriksson, I often wonder how their feelings would change if they were invited to have dinner over with Loui and his family. Got to know his wife and kids.

But no. $6M deserves death apparently. Just terminating a number.

I don't like his contract or even his play most of the time, but it's absurd how far reaching the hatred can get.

That contract was offered with the reasonable expectation that he would at least attempt to play like an NHLer.

ya he signed the contract, well now he knows he has gotten most of his money , i just don't get why he is dragging this out! to me that is selfish, he knows he can't really play any more

*sigh*

That's not what Loui says,  that's not what Green says ... and that's not what his centerman, Horvat, says

He needed a coach to put him in the right company also.

Big rink with Sedins, yes... Small rink with Sedins, no.

This is a coach issue, not player.

Coach and Gm should be better with those strategic decisions.

Loui knows he is done.  His family doesn't even live here anymore, they moved back to Dallas last year.

Francesco is going to cut him a nice cheque for $3 million this year, he might have already received it.  A very nice Christmas bonus to send him off to retirement.  That $3 million would give him $31 million total that he has received in Vancouver to be a 4th line plug and empty net specialist.  Plus he has made over $30 million even before he signed with Vancouver.  That's over $61 million he has already made in the NHL.  He does not need that last $5 million over the next 2 years.  He has more than enough to retire in comfort for many generations to come.  There are players in this league that have walked away from more than that that haven't even made $31 million, never mind $61 million.

He should do the honorable thing and just retire.  Luongo retired 3 years before his contract was up.  He knew he was done.  He walked away from almost $4 million.  He didn't need that money.  And Loui doesn't need the $5 million.  If he doesn't walk away from that money and continues to hijack this team's cap space for the next 2 years then he deserves whatever criticism comes his way.

There's a difference between trying to and actually performing.

Eriksson does skate hard, hustles, defends well, etc... but sometimes a player just doesn't have it anymore.  We just all didn't expect him to decline so quickly.

He does still play as an NHLer.... just not a $6 million dollar player.  He's playing like a $1-2 million dollar player.

I genuinely can't imagine walking into that locker room again as the most overpaid guy.  Every one of his team mates would know that he is costing them the chance to win and already cost them losing some of their friends who we couldn't afford.

Walk away now by mutually terminating, maybe try to sign somewhere else at a minimum type salary to see if he can find a better fit or retire back in Sweden and run his restaurants.

He isn't even making $5 million more over the next two years.  He loses 30% this year so will only get $700k.  Next season at best he will earn around $3.2 million in real dollars with escrow, maybe worse if the players are forced to put more money into deferral if HRR is still in the tank.  Take away agent fees and taxes and he is probably looking at a take home pay of a little more than $2 million for two years.

I thought they never moved from Dallas.

Great post.  If I was Benning I would waive him and send him to Utica for the next two years.  If that $5 million or $4 million or whatever it is is that important to him then he should have to earn it by riding buses every week and actually playing big minutes on the top line in Utica for the next 2 years.  It's really nice weather in Utica in the winter time as well.

If he is actually dumb enough to do this then he fully deserves that extra few million.  Or if he actually has a brain he would do like you said and move back to Sweden to run his restaurants and spend the $61 million he has earned playing in the NHL.

The first thing Loui will do when he sits down?

Again, by forcing the issue he may become the 2nd most hated Canuck behind the potato chip guy

we just cant have him on roster on opening night, such a negative attitude and zero work ethic. I dont care if we buy him out or give up a 1st rounder, he just doesnt belong in canucks dressing room.

I would buy him out and try to trade sutter and baer away.

Its 5.6m this yr and 3.6m next year than 0.6m for next 2yrs for cap penalties
