Went to arbitration just for that. Lmao

His salary last year was 600K / 125K and he's likely to play mostly in the AHL.  So an increase from 125K to 275K in the AHL is not negligible.

I wouldn't mind making $300 000 US in one year :(

Well, if you had dedicated your life to hockey from an early age, likely neglecting other things along the way, you could have had a marginal shot at being good enough to make the NHL. Then, if you work your ass off, you might have a fringe career like Schroeder, which, let's not kid ourselves, is still better than the vast majority of people that ever play the game. Finally, you've earned a shot at $300k in a year for a hockey career that isn't likely to get much better or, relatively, last much longer. So once you're done, you'll have few marketable skills and no work experience.

There really isn't much about that to envy.

just because 50 k is a big deal to him, doesn't mean he and/ or his agent should have publicly humiliated him with his hometown team. Agents are supposed to be able to gauge the situation... whatever the case was here, the schroeder camp ended up looking silly.

Following ones passions to the bitter end without allowing the trappings of fear, doubt and outter influence interfere is one of the most envious things a person can do.

Bet that was an awkward meeting.

"Hey, We just waived you and you may have no future with us, but we felt bad so here's 300,000 and a bus ticket Iowa."

Well, I should have added the word "financially" at the end, but I thought it was implied given the post I quoted.
