You may be right though, Quebec and even Seattle have strong bids and ownership groups ready and waiting to get the expansion nod...and yet Buttman double downs on a desert(ed) market with some serious question marks...like a fan base that mostly works at night and won't be available to go to live games...and a historically "fair weather" fan base that tends to stop going to hockey (and other sports) games when the going gets tough...500 million is a lot of dough even spread around the ownership group/NHL...wonder what they would have charged to put a team in Quebec - that has a fan base ready and waiting for over two decades now...maybe they couldn't get the same dough as Daddy F. Warbucks in Vegas and that was the deciding factor. The difference now is that 30 teams provides a ridiculous amount of talent available for a start up. And Mr. F. has the dough and has publicly announced intention to push hard to add some good free agents and spend to the cap. Vegas could quickly pass ARI and other bottom dwellers (ahem won't say it although thinking it...well let's be honest once the Sedins are gone and we lose our first line...what do we honestly have in our prospect pool that will = star power? Horvat? Olli J?..not sure we have any sure bets yet) and become a force in both the division, and possibly the conference. It will come down to who they draft the first two years, and what sort of team they can put together...one thing is for sure, it won't look like Columbus did. I'd be less shocked if they manage to get Buffy, Mike Fisher, Tyler Toffoli, etc. That Sportsnet link is a joke, Rick Nash, Patrick Kane, etc? That's an insult to past expansion drafts.
