Mine.

This makes a lot of sense, you are a lot younger and didn't actually live through some of that music so you almost listen to it as a joke but kinda not really. I remember me and my friends listening to disco in that same kinda way. I apologize for being harsh on some of those songs, I'm a bitter old bastard.

It's all good. I didn't have as much time as I wanted to spend on it either, so some of them are exactly what you said (joke songs). Shame you didn't enjoy the Madeon song quite as much as I do, but as there is a generational difference I can also see why. =)

I actually didn't mind it and should have probably given it a 6, I listened to the entire song.

The Killers - Mr. Brightside

Easily their most recognizable song, along with Somebody Told Me. Brandon Flowers' vocals weren't the strongest back then, but it works with the tone of the album. Everything comes together so nicely in this one.

8.5/10

Spoiler

Ed Sheeran - Nina

Don't really care for this track, or Ed Sheeran in general, I guess. He has a decent voice, but I find song just average. Lyrically, it's okay. Just about how hard it is to keep a relationship while touring and what not. Some word play, but nothing special. Thought the piano sample was kind of okay.

5/10

Spoiler

The Outfield - Your Love

Strong 80's movie soundtrack feel here. Frontman's voice made me think I was gonna hate this song, but it grew on me. Or maybe I just started to tune it out. Anyway, I liked the instrumentals enough. Pretty catchy overall.

6/10

Spoiler

Jimmy Eat World - The Middle

Pretty much the exact song that comes to mind when I think of mid-2000s pop punk. I'm not a big fan of 2000's punk, but this one is fine. I've heard it too many times and this listenthrough hasn't really changed what I used to think of it.

6/10

Spoiler

K'naan - Bang Bang (feat. Adam Levine)

Another song that I didn't care all that much about. K'naan's flow is okay. Hook was alright the first time around, but it just gets tiresome. Production isn't anything to rave about.

5.5/10

Spoiler

Mos Def - Know That (feat. Talib Kweli)

I rather enjoyed this track. I've always had an appreciation for Mos Def and Talib Kweli, but I don't listen either very often. Flows are great and the word play is definitely there. I didn't really like that vocal sample in the hook. Instrumentals were decent.

7/10

Spoiler

John Legend - Who Do You Think We Are (feat. Rick Ross)

Really liked the vocal sampling and instrumentals here. All of it blends perfectly. Legend's vocals are strong here, as usual. Bursting with soul. Ross has a pretty generic verse, but he wasn't bad. Solid R&B/soul piece overall.

7.5/10

Spoiler

Kanye West - Street Lights

Not the biggest fan of the 808s album. This is just a simple track about the inevitability of time and mundanity of life, like the street lights passing. Production and vocals are pretty much on par with what you'd expect out of 808s: synth and autotune.

6/10

Spoiler

The Shins - Simple Song

Nice little story about a girl the singer has had strong feelings for from a young age. Guitars were pretty good. That instrumental bit after the second repetition of the hook was cool.

6/10

Spoiler

Porter Robinson - Flicker

I'm quite indifferent when it comes to EDM, but I liked this. The bass/guitar riff does transition well into the electronics. The Japanese vocals were kind of annoying though. Well mixed.

6.5/10

Overall, I was kind of underwhelmed by the mix. It's definitely diverse, but nothing stuck out to me.

Sorry if the reviews seemed lazy. It's 5 AM. I'll guess when I get up.

Best coast - feeling ok - 7/10. Pretty good, but pretty typical California summer rock with a hint of Kelly clarkson.

https://youtu.be/vOhLbA-B-bE

Ice cube - you can't fade me. - 5/10. Not a big Ice Cube fan to begin with, and while the beat was pretty alright... not a fan of the song overall and the story didn't really interest me.

The smalls - my saddle horse - 8/10. I love this. The guitar, the lyrics, et al.

https://youtu.be/6N_XkTuuaJg

Candlemass at the gallows end - 7.5/10. Loved this, except for the beginning. Is this hair metal or a rock ballad? Both? Either way, this is pretty dope.

https://youtu.be/LnFJJfwiwb4

Depeche mode -it's no good. - 7/10. Didn't realize these guys had a song other than "Just can't enough" :P Pretty good. Felt a bit of U2 vibes here as well.

https://youtu.be/stpaq27-V70

Lake of tears - sweet water - 6.5/10. This wasn't bad, I just couldn't get over how much the lead vocalist sounded like the guy from Russkaja

https://youtu.be/2UweidgHw9o

Gary Glitter - leader of the gang - 7.5 Elvis Impersonators/10. Love the guitar and the voice. Even the outfit :P

https://youtu.be/8hPoOOhXg-k

NOFX - linoleum - 8/10. This kinda music is what I'm into right now, and this didn't disappoint.

https://youtu.be/Wtak7jJmv8o

Sleigh Bells - kids - 8/10. I like the vocals, guitars, and the stomp feel. Love it.

https://youtu.be/jUP8R3nPVB0

The smiths - girlfriend in a coma - 6/10. The voice is nice, but it's kinda a bit too trance-y IMO.

https://youtu.be/3GhoWZ5qTwI

Tommy James and the shondels - dragging the line - 6.5/10. I love older music like this. It's got a nostalgic feel to it.

https://youtu.be/xLfO738Ok5Y

Corb Lund - daughter don't you marry no guitar picker 6/10. Pretty alright, but repetitive and not really my style.

https://youtu.be/V1YOjx7D8Mk

Claudja Barry - Boogie Oogie Woogie dancing shoes - 7/10. Pretty hip!

https://youtu.be/5GTHNQT09wE

Anyway, I happen to know this was @LaBamba's mix and it's actually pretty good!

7/10 overall.

Candlemass are a Swedish doom metal band, they are legendary I bet the Sedin's know who they are. Thanks for the review. If you like that kinda punk but don't want to listen to the mainstream stuff I suggest

another Swedish band but nothing like candlemass

That's actually not too bad! I'll have to check out more of their stuff sometime.

Swedes have some awesome punk bands, I'm a big Millencolin fan.
