I agree. Going to be heavily disappointed if no NHL players. Only once in every 4 years we get to watch the best of each country go against one another and go at it hard. World cup of hockey is not going to be anywhere near good as it does not have the glory and significance of olympic gold medal. Bettman and co needs to think big here. Korea is a small country but viewership is global. If they don't go to this one, then outsiders will lose interest. Just like that dude that watched the Blues game by chance and fell in love with the game, NHL has to go to every single olympic. And eventually, you will get people who, by chance or otherwise, tune in to watch an exciting hockey game and falls in love with hockey. If they don't go, the next one will be in 8 years. Good luck selling the game with 8 years gap in between. Oh and I hope Bettman is so stupid to think that World cup of hockey's viewership is be global. The viewership for the World cup of hockey is just the same old Canadians + some Americans + handful of European countries. Not gonna help sell the game. I don't see how removing the best players in the world from the Olympics is going to make Olympic Hockey "great". All the sudden we're going to see a huge decline in the competitiveness in Olympic Hockey because its literally third string players from the main Hockey countries competing. Well before 1996 Olympic hockey was great, don't see how it would be any different now. Don't you ever watch the World Jr. tournament? If you don't think that's great hockey i don't know what to say. Don't you ever watch the World Jr. tournament? If you don't think that's great hockey i don't know what to say. How can you compare the World Juniors to the Olympics? The Olympics is designed to showcase the best athletes in any given sport. The vast majority of the best hockey athletes play in the NHL. Logic dictates that if the NHL doesn't compete in the Olympics we will have lesser quality players playing and therefore lesser quality hockey. Sure the games may be a heck of a lot closer due to weaker hockey countries finally having a chance at scoring a goal or two but that doesn't make it better hockey to watch. Because they are both similar in that playing for your country is a lot different than regular season NHL. World Junior is usually pretty similar to the same teams playing in the Olympics.
