Yes that was the plan all along. Bachman and Demko in Utica and Garteig getting playing time in Alaska. If any of the four goalies above are out with an injury he will be called up to Utica.

Benning said today if they had known about Miller's status earlier they would have called up Garteig.

Could you imagine playing in utica. You get pulled aside and they tell you you're getting sent down. Getting sent down is probably bad enough. But getting sent down to ALASKA... that has to suck the big one.

I always wonder how guys between the ECHL and AHL afford rent if they are moving between the two leagues.

EDIT: NVM ECHL provides housing for the players. Some players though make only $445 per week.

500$/week. Living in Alaska with team housing provided...

Pass.

Props for these players that stick it out thought.

Aces battle hard in season-opener but fall 2-0 to Eagles in Colorado

Oct 21st, 2016

LOVELAND, CO. - Kent Simpson stopped 26 shots and Jesse Mychan scored the game-winning goal in the second period as the Colorado Eagles downed the Alaska Aces 2-0 Friday night at the Budweiser Events Center. It was the Aces first game of the season, Colorado's third.

The game took on a physical tone from the start but offered no goals. Both goaltenders, Simpson of the Eagles and Aces netminder Kevin Carr were good and the first period shots favored Alaska 9-7.

Most of the second period was tight hockey. The Aces continued to look for their scoring dynamic, working hard, getting chances but getting little to show for it.

With Alaska's Garet Hunt off on a high-sticking penalty, Mychan popped the puck past Carr at 18:11, assisted by Casey Pierre-Zabotel and Matt Register. The period ended 1-0 Eagles and an 18-17 edge in shots.

In the third, the Aces pressed for the equalizer, but a long-distance empty-net goal by Register with 1:35 to go dashed the Glacier Blue hopes.

Simpson finished with 26 saves for the shutout...Carr 22 stops for Alaska.

Shots ended up 26-24 in favor of Alaska.

The Aces fell to 0-1. The Eagles are now 3-0.

The Aces and Eagles will play again Saturday at 5:10pm Alaska time in Loveland.

Wasn't Jesse Mychan at the Canucks prospect camp a few years ago?

@shakeywalton, I bow down to your hockey knowledge. Thanks for posting this informative info, well researched.

thanks my friend....

here is a summary of lastnights game..

Aces forward Stephen Perfetto netted a pair of goals and an assist, while fellow forward Tim Coffman accounted for two goals as Alaska knocked off Colorado 5-2 at the Budweiser Events Center on Saturday. The loss was the first of the season for the Eagles, who now sit at 3-1 on the year.

The Aces opened the scoring at the 7:03 mark of the first period when Coffman took a cross-slot pass from forward Garet Hunt and snapped it past Eagles goaltender Kent Simpson to give Alaska the 1-0 lead.

Colorado would come up with an answer less than seven minutes later, as defenseman Michael Sdao fielded a drop pass in the slot and rifled home his second goal of the season to knot the game at 1-1.

Alaska would reclaim the lead at the 5:34 mark of the second period when Perfetto spun a backhander by Simpson from the right circle to give the Aces the 2-1 edge.

Heading into the final frame, the Eagles would again pull back even as forward Casey Pierro-Zabotel chopped a loose puck on the side of the net over the shoulder of Aces goaltender Michael Garteig to tie the game at 2-2 with 14:12 remaining in regulation.

The Aces would jump back on top when forward Peter Sivak took a pass in the low slot and slammed it home to give Alaska the 3-2 lead at the 10:11 mark of the third. The Aces would add a little insurance as Coffman collected his second goal of the night from between the circles to make it 4-2 with just 2:00 left in the period. Perfetto would add an empty-netter with 45 seconds remaining to secure the 5-2 win for Alaska.

Something happened between Dane Fox and Travis Green. I've been told a few times Fox didn't like the program Green had in place and wanted it changed. The next day Fox was sent down to an ECHL team. He'll probably never be on the Comets roster.

Yeah, can't imagine him coming back. He was traded to Carolina and played a single game for their AHL affiliate in Charlotte. Contract expired and he wasn't qualified by Carolina so he went UFA. Signed with Missouri in the ECHL and did a tryout with Chicago (AHL) but was released. Currently playing with Missouri on the ECHL deal.

Daniel Johnston - name sounds familiar, was he a prospect that joined us for the youngstars tourney a few year back?

Maybe because Danny Johnson played for the Canucks...........during the 1970/71 season.

He was one of the fastest players ever on the Canucks.

Aces win 6-3 today, Garteig stopped 18 of 21 shots in the win. Danny Moynihan had an assist, no points for Stewart.

2-0 in his first two pro starts, regardless of it being the ECHL, is very nice to see. Nice to have a couple good young goaltenders in the system. Looking forward to following his development, along with Demko's over the next couple years.

I watched Garteig in the Penticton tourney. Great positioning and an excellent glove.
