There isn't a single fan in the league who would want Brown on their team with his abysmal contract, but there's definitely a discussion to be had here

5 years ago, sure. Would have jumped onboard before you finished saying Dustin Brown. Not now. How does this help create space and more playing time for our young guys coming up such as Boeser, Jake, etc? Gonna need that cap space going forward for our new core, not a guy on the decline.

Ummm, REALLY bad trade. Brown is one of the worst contracts in the league, Los Angeles would do just about anything to get rid of it.

 

More realistic trade would be:

 

To Vancouver:

Brown

2017 First Round Pick

3 Million Retained Salary

 

To Los Angeles:

B Level Prospect (Someone we don't really want)

1 Can of Baked Beans (Maybe upgrade to Pork and Beans, be nice to them)

 

That gets it done, probably on both sides.

Actually, revising this...Take out the B Level Prospect and they should retain 4 million of Brown's salary. Much better idea.

The only way I can see this happening is exactly the way many people have mentioned. LA retains at least 50% salary and throws in something else (pick, prospect, new Xbox controller for WD to practice his coaching strategies with). But, in all seriousness, I do not want Brown. He is essentially, as stated before, a bottom 6 player making tons of dough (still love the guy, but naslund in his last year here exemplified that comment).

 

 What we need is to stay the course. The young guys will step up, and the roster spots and salary cap need to be workable to move in the next batch of rooks. The way this team is right now makes me excited for a few years down the road. Sure we may not be a serious contender for a couple years, but the hockey is going to be a lot of fun to watch, especially when boeser and juolevi crack the roster and show us why they deserve to be in the NHL. Go Canucks Go!

Why do we want him? He's 31 and hasn't had a 30+ point season since 2012 and has a 5.875M cap hit through to 2021. I wouldn't take him and his butt ugly contract even if LA offered their next five 1st round picks for taking him off their hands.

We could definitely use Brown.. Burrows needs an assistant mentor/anchor for the youth. We could run a Burrows /Horvat / Brown line in an effort to run Bo out of town ;P
