The exchange rate has been holding steady around 30-35% for a while. With Trump's administration purposely weakening the USD by letting the banks grow their balance sheets, the rate will only get more advantageous for the CAD. If Quebec can't find solid ownership with healthy financials, they're doomed to eventual failure even if they do get a team. The NHL front office isn't exactly Canada friendly. US Dollar will go up, Canadian dollar will likely drop to around 68 to 70 cents. So, when you think of what that translates to, if you are writinga cheque for 500 million US Dollars, just for a team, at current exchange, that's roughly 650 million Canadian dollars. Then, you have a 70 million + cap, so around 90 to 95 million Canadian. That is what is holding up Quebec. It's not as big a city as Montreal or Toronto or Vancouver and doesn't have the same corporate sponsors to draw on. It's a big commitment until Canada increases manufacturing and other sectors and becomes less reliant on oil exports.

Trump wants to lower the trade deficit by making US foods cheaper. That's not the issue at hand though. It's a shame that Quebec doesn't have a billionaire or a major corporation willing to invest in the team and city. I thought they were on solid ground. I'll keep rooting for the faux-froggies though. VegasCanuck
The US might be trying to lower against some currencies, but Canada is far too vested in Energies, which are not performing well right now. Also, the US just, slightly raised their interest rate to make investment a little more attractive. The Downtown is through the roof. Until those factors change, CDNdollar will generally under perform.

Between having a good school system and many resources, it could be much better off economically than it is today.

Getting agreement on where to put a building is what's holding things up there and that has nothing to do with Bettman. Seattle is not "moving slowly ahead" at all. Bettman alluded to this in a clip I saw an hour ago. To paraphrase him: what is there to talk about regarding Seattle without a new building? 2 separate arena proposals from 3 separate groups. 1 private NBA ownership group-financed new building in the city's stadium district versus 2 lipstick-on-a-pig bids at taxpayer expense, with neither backed by any potential NBA/NHL owner group, crammed into a densely populated city neighbourhood already with nightmare traffic problems. SHOULD be a no-brainer...but, this is Seattle we're talking about.
Vinny in Vancouver
Assuming the conspiracy theories of the top 3 picks of the NHL draft lottery being fixed, I'm just wondering which one would Gary Bettman choose for the Coyotes: let them have one of the top 3 picks with the goal of enticing a buyer to move them out of Arizona (hello, Seattle?) punish Arizona after this latest arena debacle by not allowing them to have a top 3 pick Again, assuming the conspiracy theory is true, I expect Colorado to not get the top pick and Vancouver to get one of the top 2 picks. Vancouver is due.
