MacIntyre's three thoughts: It's over for the Canucks, probably over for Desjardins

Virt didn't need discussion (which I'm sure WD gave him plenty of). He needed practice time and playing time to apply and repeat those things. That was never going to happen at this level. Regardless of coach.

He didn't?  Who said?

Apperently Jake said Green is spending good time with him going over video and correcting technique and thinking options.

That should happen at this level, and it does, but not with Willie.

Willie was, and is, IN CHARGE of line ups and ice time.

It's Willies decision to do what a TGreen can do .. or not.

Thats what Coaches do.

6 of 1, half dozen of the other. Change for the sake of change is rarely good.

I simply see no reason to panic and start making changes when again, he's not remotely the biggest reason we're losing games. It's reactionary when we need to be exactly the opposite.

Thankfully, the reactionary vibe I see in the fan base does not appear to be mirrored by management.

Maybe if he signs for 1 year at 2.5-3 million its not dumb

Yeah, I would think that is what management would like to approach him with 1 year deal at +/-$3m. I doubt he bites but it depends on what else he gets offered too.

Because the next coach can't do anything different. The Sedins aren't going to get younger with a new coach. Edler & Tanev aren't going to all of a sudden turn into iron men...

Are we suppose to challenge for the cup this year?

All the tankers (I hear a lot of them on here every day) should want WD here & to continue losing. Isn't that how we're supposed to get our future young stars...

It's unbelievable how so many people on here say that we need better draft picks & younger talent, yet we are headed into that direction & now everyone wants to win NOW at the same time???. Which one is it?

No coach can make this team a cup contender this year or next. Got to learn how to deal with reality people...

Was talking a about a retool vs rebuild, we havent got assets back at the deadline in the last view seasons, hopefully that changes this deadline, meaning a change of direction.

How about you contribute to a discussion.

We traded picks for NHL ready players 24 and under and signed one Veteran goalie and one veteran top 6 winger.

Not like we traded a 1st-3rd round picks for rentals...

WD can't materialize practice time out of nowhere. Again, that's an NHL vs AHL issue, not a coaching one.

Without that practice time, Virt was not going to be given additional playing time as he wasn't getting the time to practice the things he needed to earn that time.

He's exactly where he should be right now and that's no failing of Virtanen's or WD's. It's simply a function of him not being NHL ready yet.

Or it could destabilize the team further and actually hurt players development (one of the things WD has actually been good at FWIW).

And if new coach does manage to eek one or two more drops of blood from the stone, what does that get us? Three or four more wins on the season? A worse pick?

Meh... deal with it in the off season when there's more options to replace him if that's the direction we want to go. At the earliest, maybe a month or so left to give Green a low pressure tryout.

Willie has developed no one here.. he flogged Bauertschi..

Jarvis to take over interm.

Green next season. Jarvis assists.

I think it's more about the timing.  Is the guy that they would want as the next coach even available right now?  Or would it be better / no different if they waited until the off-season?

Along those lines, would we be worse off with an interim coach?

Let Jarvis take over for the rest of the year.

Again, I don't think 'panic' has anything to do with it. For me, when I see somethings not working I let it go. Why hang on to something when its not working.

And coaching changes have reignited other teams. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. I do not subscribe to the idea that our players are crap and can't win more games.

I see that he has run out of tricks,. A six million dollar man on the 4th line..

THAT Speaks volume to me C73

.. I said it before it happened, they needed to get Virtannen away from this mess.

Ever have a rock chip in your windshield ? ..and over the course of a year a crack runs endlessly across the full width??

Thats what has happened here.

There is no way in hell, this gets fixed with Willie driving.

I have to disagree this team is what it is and maybe Loui was limited in time because of the huge hit laid on him by Hainsey for all we know he tweaked something.

This is pro hockey, a job, it should be organized months in advance,. Not thin air.

Then it sounds to me that WD has problems organizing a good practice when he gets it.

.. and there is always a video room.

That hit was this week.. Louie has been absent since day 1.

There is far more to this team..

wrong person running its bench and practice.

Loui is a slow starter if you followed him in Dallas and Boston you'd be aware of that.

Fwiw Beauvillier last month told a Montreal paper that he never had an individual discussion with Capuano.

The entire team 'isn't working'. This is a rebuild.

And again with the black and white.... I never said our players are crap. Individually, we have good players. The Sedins are legends but they're are no longer elite 1st liners and we have no one yet ready to supplant them. We've got some nice young players like Horvat, Stetcher, Hutton, Tryamkin, Gudbranson, Markstrom etc but they're YOUNG.

Not having an above average 1st line is kind of a problem if you want to win games. Having the youngest D in the league is a problem if you want to win games. Having your top pair and one of your better, veteran forwards out is a problem if you want to win games. Combining all those things is a BIG PROBLEM if you want to win games.

Those are not coaching issues and they are BY FAR the biggest reasons for our season. The coaching, while certainly not 'perfect', is a very, VERY small reason for our season. How much the coaching is 'not working' is severely overblown.

Between the compressed schedule, travel and CBA required time off, there is FAR, FAR less practice time available at the NHL level vs AHL. This has absolutely nothing to do with coaching or a coach's ability to schedule.

I really don't know how to state that more clearly.

Why are they good coaches? Explain it using their records as to why they are better than the incumbent.

Good coaches get fired all of the time...AV is better than all of the coaches that are mentioned.IMO..Unfortunately,for Willie,a 9 game losing streak, punctuated with a 1-4 road trip tells you that clearly..his message isn't getting through.

There may be a few more wins that a different coach could pull off, but in the grand scheme, so what? It isn't likely to change their position in the standings or their longer term strategy (which isn't the job of the coach). A new coach won't change the roster.

The CBA only allows so much practice time which includes video room time...

None of that negates a different coach pulling more out of this team. We've got better than 30th place talent.
