Tre Mac
Don't know much if anything about them but I'll pick my top 5 just based on their name: Nolan Volcan Otto Makinen Tyler Jette Zach Sawchenko Vito Bavaro Maybe Ty Amonte, that sounds like an offspring of Tony Amonte. Sedinyoureyesontheprize
VEINI VEHVILÄINEN http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=176290 Otto Makinen Kristian Reichel : Quote NHL Bloodline’s: Czech F Kristian Reichel Czech F Kristian ReichelFather: Robert Reichel There are few players in NHL history that have as much International experience as Robert Reichel. He appeared in six World Championships, and two Olympic games. The only season Reichel did not represent Czechoslovakia/Czech Republic between 1987 and 2004 was in 1998-99. Robert played for the Calgary Flames, New York Islanders, Phoenix Coyotes, and Toronto Maple Leafs throughout his 12-year NHL career. He did play overseas in Germany for the entire 1995-96 season, then two years for HC Litvinov of the Czech League (1999-00, 2000-01) before returning to play for Toronto the following three years. Robert Reichel continued to play professional hockey in the Czech Republic for six more years – until 2009-10. Reichel appeared in 830 regular season game, scoring 252 goals, 378 assists (630 points). He also produced 31 points in 70 playoff contests. He began his coaching career with HC Litvinov in 2010-11, but resigned to coach their U16 team in 2011-12 – he also coached the Czech U16 National team. He took over as Assistant Coach for the Litvinov U18 squad in 2013-14 – coaching the U16 National team again. Robert was once again promoted in 2014-15 to Litvinov’s U20 team. He also saw a promotion on the National stage, taking over the Czech U17 team. He shifted his sole focus to the National Program in 2015-16, coaching both the U18 and U19 programs. Robert Facts: – World Championships: three-time gold medal winner, four-time bronze medal winner – Robert Reichel scored the lone shootout goal in Czech Republic’s victory over Canada at the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics – eventually beating Russia in the final. – He left Phoenix after the 1998-99 season to play for Czech HC Litvinov the next two seasons. His rights were eventually traded along with Travis Green, and Craig Mills in exchange for Danny Markov. He spent three more seasons playing in the NHL for the Toronto Maple Leafs, posting 123 points in 228 games over that span. Czech F Kristian Reichel – 92nd Ranked European Skater (NHL Central Scouting Mid-Term Rankings) Playing for the same program as his father (HC Litvinov), Kristian made a four-game appearance with the U16 team back in 2011-12 when he was 14-years-old. He spent the entire 2012-13 season with HC Litvinov U16, then split 2013-14 between their U16 and U18 teams. He also represented the Czech National U16 squad, posting eight points in 13 games. He spent most of last season with HC Litvinov’s U18 team, but saw a short-stint with the U20 team. Kristian wore the “A” for the Czech National U17 team, producing 19 points in 27 International games. Kristian looks smaller than his 6’0 frame because he’s only 154lbs. Once he fills out, and puts on some extra weight, this crafty center will garner more attention from scouts. This is a prospect to watch over the next couple of years to see how he plays on the International stage at future World Juniors. Players have three chances at being picked up in the draft (typically, I don't have the energy to look up all the rules) before they can become full free agents. Unlikely, If a player gets passed over twice they'll probably never get drafted (Like Curtis Valk) and can sign with anyone they choose (Like Ashton Sautner). The player just has to sign an ELC. It seemed odd to me that we drafted Abols over Ronning when Abols was about to be a free agent and was unlikely to get drafted.

If we want them and they're available in the late rounds, we can weigh the risk and either pick them or wait and hope no one else does. Then of course you'd have to hope they want to sign with you vs anyone else who was hoping they'd hit free agency, but hey...

Unless you're a top college player that's 22/23 you probably don't have many suitors and will sign with the first team to offer you a contract. Also, who cares? Who cares if you lose and overage player with a higher floor in the 6th/7th round? I'd rather take a younger player that's ranked very low because of size or no exposure (like Jasek). elvis15
OK, and who cares if you use a 7th rounder on that same player? There's pros and cons to each. Like I said, you weigh the risk at losing them against how much you want them.
SID.IS.SID.ME.IS.ME
Wouldn't be surprised, given past draft practices of this regime, if we used a late pick on recent prospects camp invitee Kyle Maksimovich (#45 on the list). And I'm a big fan of using middle to late round picks on overage/re-entry players with high age-adjusted scoring rates (as they're generally available at bargain draft positions relative to their rankings on the projection models). EDIT: As far as the OP's list goes, it's the Euro forwards that really look intriguing IMO (Shvyrev, Reichel, Meshcheryakov, Lakatos, Krikunenko, Wahlgren, etc). Lakatos has really put up strong numbers for a U20 player in the Extraliga. And our own Jasek offers a pretty good comparable for just how impressive Lakatos' production has been. This blog post offers very good writeups on Shvyrev and Wahlgren: http://pucksandrecreation.com/tim-wahlgren-igor-shvyrov-prospects/ Both are players worth looking at (depending on where they're available). Krikunenko has put up very solid numbers (especially for his age) at the VHL level (second tier to KHL) and has been point per game in the MHL. Guest
I'd take a punt at Zach Sawchenko, most pundits were surprised he wasn't drafted last year.

Only 5'9 but he plays a Marchand style chippy game apparently and this season with the Thunderbirds has broke out a bit with 30 goals so far, 41 assists, 227 shots on goal. What intrigued to me check it out was twitter with the thunderbirds saying there was 14 nhl scouts watching their game today. Volcan was also a WHL player of the week in Dec.http://whl.ca/article/thunderbirds-volcan-named-whl-on-the-run-player-of-the-week Should sign him to play in Utica?
