No real word on the scouting report what kind of player he is.

26. There isn’t as much action on CHL kids because most get drafted before free agency is reality. One who has captured attention if Zack MacEwen of QMJHL Gatineau. Ottawa, Tampa, Toronto and Vancouver are all believed to be among those interested. He was invited to Anaheim’s camp last September.

Last few overagers that were pumped up have been duds:

Jon Martin

Dryden Hunt

Both played in the WHL and not the Q; putting up phenomenal numbers. Zack plays in the Q and is NOT lighting it up. He'd be a fringe 4th liner, at best.

Most overagers are expected to be a beast as they are men among boys.  20-21 year old up against peers who are 16 and 15 in some cases.

Remember when MG used a 2nd rounder for Mallet?  He couldn't even make it to the AHL.

While this particular player won't cost any draft picks, I certainly hope the Canucks don't waste a contract spot on him.  Maybe get Utica to sign him to "keep him in the system"?

I'd be fine with taking a flyer on him.

Definitely rather sign an undrafted free agent player of this ilk than use a pick to draft one.

All the overager cautions of course apply, especially when stat-watching a guy who's over 20 years old, 6'4", 215 lbs and he's playing against boys.

Nonetheless, he's scoring goals at a decent rate, good on draws, has size and physicality, fights, and plays a leadership role for his team.
