[Proposal] Alex Edler for Marc-André Fleury

edler would get to go to a contender, who could use another top-4 d-man with all the injuries on their blue line.

we could trade miller for a picks/prospects/whatever and replace him with fleury.

edler and fleury have similar contracts (no trade clauses), the annual cap hit is similar and the remainder of the term is similar.

our goalie depth would be fleury (stanely cup champion), markstrom (who needs to play more!!) and demko (who's the real deal). and we have enough depth on d with the emergence of stetcher, tryamkin and hutton, drafting Juolevi ,and the possibility of gudbranson re-singing for a few years, to loose edler and his contract.

if fleury takes miller's job as our starter for the 17/18 season, we wont have to spend money on re-signing him,  and we'd have a #1 goalie, which would save us from having to find one in free agency or trading for one if the club isnt confident enough to hand markstrom the reigns for next year.

anyway, this is my first proposal, i'll probably get flamed, just wondering what you guys thought :)

You want to give up our #2 defender for a goalie that'll be bought out? We would also have to expose Marky in the expansion draft if we do that, which isn't happening.

These. This proposal couldn't have made less sense. Not only would we be giving away our top pair defenseman we'd also be losing Markstrom for nothing. Horrible.

Even though MAF would have to submit an extensive list of teams he'd be willing to go to (18 teams as per CapFriendly), what makes Van appealing to a Stanley Cup winner? If it's just a chance to be the starter, I could see that, but if he wants to win then he's going to have to wait awhile. By the time we are competitive enough to contend he may be in the same situation that he is now with Murray, only here with Demko.

I disagree with this proposal but the Markstrom exposure isn't true. We protect Markstrom and expose Bachman. Even if we kept Miller he doesn't count as an exposed goalie because he's a 2017 UFA.

If we were competing...still no, MAF chokes in playoffs, one really good playoffs, every other time has been horrible, hell he lost his job last year to Murray because of it and that rookie goalie helped Pens win the cup.

So...NO, why saddle ourselves with his contract/salary when Canucks aren't competing for the next couple years. Makes no sense, at all, for either team. Pens don't want a $6mil Edler, that team is all about quick transition, lmao, Edler can't do that. Plus they want the salary to keep other players.

Maata's going on LTIR. They get 4M off the books.

Edler for Pouliot straight up. We retain about 1M of Edler's cap so he can squeeze in. Maybe we give them Subban or a mid to late pick as well if they want.

Pouliot is sheltered over there and needs a change in scenery desperately. Early to mid 20s, and was once considered the best young D-man in the world.

Juolevi - Stecher

Pouliot - Tryamkin

Hutton - Gudbranson

Pretty damn good future defence with Sbisa to boot. Makes Hutton very expendable.

MAF has a no movement clause so he has to be protected. That's why the Penguins are trying so hard to get rid of him, so they can protect Murray
