Popular Post Mo Grit
I really hope Canucks don't give up on Dahlen but allow him the opportunity to fully catch up some of the important development time missed due to his mononucleosis. In a way, Naslund had his own NHL introduction similarly delayed, only in his case, by contractual disputes. There's an interesting parallel between two young pairs of promising Swedes - Dahlen and Pettersson v Naslund and Forsburg. Both sets of hockey young friends grew up playing hockey together in Swedish programs, and eventually became high NHL draft picks. Naslund 16th overall - Forsburg 6th overall in the 1991 draft, Dahlen 42nd overall - Pettersson 5th overall, a year later. Also, one of each pair had a father who was a former professional, Ulf Dahlen and Kent Forsburg. By the time of their final junior year I recall that Naslund was viewed the better player. That Forsburg was to possess an innate character which elevates great above good, might have affected Naslund negatively as I always felt that he played sullenly and well within himself while Forsburg seemed to turn his talent into elite, with a full-blooded abandon. That Pettersson will reach Forsburg's elite status is beyond question, but perhaps that can spur his friend Dahlen upward. In this instance, the professional pedigree is in the right player to help that cause, and Dahlen won't need to see himslelf a Naslund2. Roster ambiguities played its hand in sending both Naslund and Dahlen to become Canucks (just imagine had Forsburg ever lined up alongside Markus in a 'Nucks jersey), I wouldn't want to see us spoil that good fortune of being handed Dahlen until we have given him ample time to work his way back to realizing his projected destiny as simply a good NHL'er. He's playing good hockey now in Utica, I'd expect him force at least a look with Green early next season. 1 2

nergish
I'm glad Dahlen is starting to pick up the offence. He's a smart, skilled player with a ton of heart, he just isn't especially mature physically. But, like Quinn Hughes, he strikes me as a player whose effectiveness will increase exponentially when surrounded with other skilled players. He would be tearing up the SHL right now, I'm sure of it. But he's learning how to grind in the A, and it's a good place for him at this stage in his development. 1

joe-max
Just checked the SHL standings. Timra without Dahlen are dead last and Vaxjö without EP is 9th after winning the title last year. 1
canuckledraggin
I wouldn't be surprised to hear that Pettersson does a similar thing for Timra. It does go to show how valuable Dahlen was to that team during their season last year and eventual promotion to the SHL. It has to be tough for him to see them struggle this year and possibly face relegation the very next year.

Would like to hear your opinion on Dahlen's 1. defensive game 2. speed, Does he have enough speed for Travis Green's up-tempo game? 3. physical strength. Do you see Dahlen's physical strength improved compared to the beginning of the season? 4. shot. Does he have an accurate , strong shot? Thanks for sharing your thoughts! It also doesn’t help that Växjö lost their 3 highest scorers, with Calof and Rosén both heading to the KHL (and Pettersson to the NHL). Timrå, I think, was always going to be in tough this year, as promoted teams generally struggle and find themselves fighting relegation. But there’s no doubt Dahlén would have helped them and is sorely missed. Edited February 7, 2019 by SID.IS.SID.ME.IS.ME
Dungass
2 points so far for Dahlen today, up to 14 goals and 27 points in 47 games. Not exactly setting the world on fire, but if he builds off this season the way Big Mac did his first, he could be in good shape for a call up next year.
