Canucks claim Joseph Cramarossa off waivers

by Canucks Media Relations @Canucks / Vancouver Canucks March 1st, 2017

Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the Canucks have claimed forward Joseph Cramarossa off waivers from Anaheim.

Cramarossa, 24, has appeared in 49 games for the Anaheim Ducks in his debut NHL season in 2016.17, registering 10 points (4-6-10) and 51 penalty minutes. The 6-1, 192-pound forward has recorded 31 points (17-14-31) in 164 AHL games with San Diego and Norfolk. Cramarossa set career-highs in goals (11), assists (6) and points (17) last season with San Diego. He also appeared in 11 career Calder Cup Playoff games, recording three goals (3-0-3).

Prior to making his professional debut, Cramarossa played in 235 OHL games split between Mississauga and Belleville, registering 138 points (51-87-138) and 333 penalty minutes.

A native of Toronto, Ontario, Cramarossa was selected by Anaheim in the third round, 65th overall, at the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

The Ducks lost a gritty forward from their organization Wednesday when winger Joseph Cramarossa was claimed off waivers by the Vancouver Canucks.

Cramarossa, 24, was taken in the third round by the Ducks in 2011 and made the parent club this season after three years in the American Hockey League. Playing in between the third and fourth lines, Cramarossa had four goals, six assists and 51 penalty minutes in 49 games.

The Ducks had put Cramarossa on waivers Tuesday. Vancouver GM Jim Benning told area reporters that Cramarossa will join the Canucks on their upcoming road trip to California and the winger could play against his former team on Sunday.

"He's a guy that we scouted in junior," Benning said. "Plays hard. Gets in on the forecheck. Is physical. Takes pucks to the net. We're excited to be able to have him."

Cramarossa becomes the second Ducks player to be claimed off waivers this season. Stefan Noesen was picked up by New Jersey on Jan. 25 and has since had two goals and two assists in 13 games with the Devils.

Fun fact:

The Belleville Bulls over a two year period featured three sets of brothers:

The Cramarossa's

The Gaunce's

The Subban's

The team also featured Carter Sandlak, son of former Canuck Jim Sandlak

If I recall correctly, Carter Sandlak was once invited to either a Canucks prospects or a rookie camp.
