Interesting view from Canucks Army:

A snippet from the full article because apparently adding that is a good thing :)  the rest of the article is interesting as well.

SCOUTING REPORT

I reached out to Shane Malloy from Hockey Prospect Radio on Sirius XM for a scouting report on the Olympiques centre:

A big strong grinding two-way center with the versatility to move to the wing who possesses the grit and determination to do dirty work on a line. Goes to the net hard, battles for loose pucks and cycles along the boards well and consistently finishes his checks on the forecheck. He is not fun to play against and competes hard with an in your face style.

His offensive puck skills and hockey sense took some time to develop, but he shows the potential to play at the AHL level because he keeps his game simple. His skating will need to continue to improve to play the high pace game at the pro level. He is the kind of player teams need on the fourth line in the NHL and he could player higher in the lineup in the AHL once he develops for a couple of seasons.

The forward has quite the track record of fights throughout his two seasons in the QMJHL, with a total of nine. So he isn't afraid to play physical and drop the gloves when needed.

As Shane mentions, the centre's calling card is a hard-nosed two way game that makes him difficult to play against. The scouting report does provide some insight into his later development, and how he might just be slightly behind his peers due to the later arrival in the QMJHL.

The locker room shampoo budget needs to be increased!

Seriously though, its about time this team toughens up.  Gudbranson is a really tough kid, but having him fight in most cases doesnt make sense because it puts the D down to 5 men for 5+ minutes.  Having at least 3 forwards that will answer the bell if necessary, and deliver hard hits, fore check effectively and  pop in an occasional goal be an absolute breath of fresh air.

Rebuild also means out with the "turn the other cheek, we will bend over" attitude - im sure JB sees it that way too.

Agreed. The Canucks reputation for being pushovers is on it's way out of town.

Hmm...I suddenly feel better about everything.  New speed and skill and now a couple of banger crashers that can fight and score.  Bring back Guddy.... Should

be fun to watch.  IF!!!!!!  Willie wakes up and plays with some damn conviction.  God his system is painful....

Hopefully Phil!  I love the sedins and what they have done for this town, but having them as our core players carries a stigma that this team hasnt been able to shake for years.  Basically they have been doormats for a long time.

JB obviously knows this.  This Macewen kid might not be the answer, but the fact that he is looking at players like this and Cramarossa makes me think hes at least steering in the right direction.

These guys are no different than skilled forward prospects-  you might need to sign or acquire 4 or 5 of them in order for a couple to really work out.

Was about to post that piece so thanks for saving me the trouble. :)

Those Canucks Army guys weren't very high on the idea of signing MacEwen when it was rumoured a few weeks back.

Their analytics suggest a low probability of NHL success.

Obviously JB has different ideas.

Kinda makes me think of the recent Benning on Empty:

Canucks Army analytics guy "J.B. Dirk":

"Actually, no correlation has ever been shown convincingly between fighting and succ--"

Benning: *THWACK*

-Beautiful city, with passionate fans

-Almost all old core moving on

-Likeable, ever-increasing bunch of 19~22 yo's, led by Bo

Obvious opportunities available, with a popular farm team, to boot.

There are a lot of reasons over-agers & college FA's should give Van a good, hard look. It's a potential short-cut, & could be appealing from multiple pov's.
