The Future of the Vancouver Canucks

The future of the Vancouver Canucks is looking so bright right now. All the pieces are coming into place we actually have built a good prospect pool and our core will be one the best in the league if it all goes well. In few years time, will see a core group of young high talented players and be competitive for a long time. Im actually excited for this team and thanks to Benning and Linden for sticking with their plan all along.

Craig Button from TSN is really praising the canucks future and giving benning and linden a lot of credit and really sees Canucks being competitive in 2-3 years time.

Core players..

Bo horvat, Baer, Granlund, Brock Boeser , Jonothan Dahlen, Thatcher Demko , Adam Gaudette , Olli Juolevi , Nikita Tryamkin , Ben Hutton, Troy Stecher and Goldy are just a few handful of upcoming young talent thats going to excel this team!

Things are going to get better Canuckleheads !

Really? They signed a 31 year old for 6 years at 6 million last year. They only really committed to a rebuild this trade deadline.  No rebuilding team signs a declining soft forward at 6 million until they are 37 year old.  They were thinking PLAYOFFS this season. Don't believe for a second that they planned to be sellers this trade deadline.

Yes, that move in hindsight was a bit of an error. Benning has been moving out veterans for picks, prospects, or younger players since becoming GM. While many fans have espoused the idea of a scorched earth type of rebuild, I believe Benning understands that a transitional phase is required to pass the torch.

So what? No respectable NHL franchise ever plans to tank a season, were not some $&!#ty American expansion team, were the Canucks, we tried to make it, we weren't good enough.

loui will still be a good player on a good line 3 or 4 years from now, he will remain signed through the rebuild untill we are competitive again, in no way does this signing hold the Canucks back.

Just remember that Winnipeg has been saying this for a number of years now.... and still out of the playoffs this year.

Id still like one more top prospect whether that be a centre or defender id be happy

We will likely have that and maybe more after the draft, as we should probably have 3 picks in the 1st 2 rounds if the rumors are true that Columbus has decided to forfeit the Torts pick this year.

Who knows, maybe we'll even strike gold with either SJ winning the cup or us winning the draft lottery? Unlikely but you never know!

i can see what benning was thinking when he signed louie. i'm sure he was helping the sedins finish their careers with a player that played so well with them before.

he did protect the team some what too. louie has a nmc for 2 years, a ntc for 2 years and a modified ntc for his final 2 years.

i agree that louie will come back and get 20 goals a year for at least 2 more years.

Which also could very well be Vancouver for the next couple years.

Not exactly ..

miller will most likely re-sign a 1 year contract

Hopefully by that time marky should be able to take the big step

Demko should be ready in 2-3 years if not earlier

Future is partly cloudy with a chance of showers

We've taken some small steps to correct the errors of the last few seasons but it's a long road ahead

Personally I would prefer elite management to create an elite team. Sorry to those that think benning and co are swell but even if they are not as bad as I think and somewhere around average I still want better. We've done bad to average to death in this town.

Question - does the team that wins 1st overall via the draft lottery also get the 1st pick of every other round, or does it default back to regular season standings?

I think it reverts back to the regular season standings.

Last season, we picked 5th overall but starting from the second round, we picked 3rd (33OA) although it was traded away as part of Gud-McCann trade.

And only white prospects at that, aside from Subban but he probably wont make it. The future is bright indeed.

PS not being racist, just stating facts.

You were doing fine not being racist until you wrote that last bit
