Gaunce should be Protected

Gaunce is playing incrementally better every game.  No scoring machine, I'll admit, but heading somewhere good.  He has a heavy game that is natural to him, seems impervious to injury, cares about improving his game, can play center or wing, and is starting to make real plays.  Needs to be quicker, needs a little more confidence, but he seems on the verge of breaking out.  Compared to some No trade clause ppl I could mention, he seems to be who we should be protecting for our future.  HOW GOOD IS THIS GUY?  Too good to leave unprotected, or so lame in points we can slip him buy Vegas?

You're right but most fans don't see how good Guance is now at all the little things and how great he'll be as be at those little things with time, the very very strong penalty killer I know he'll be, how we need his big size and strongNorth/South game, his high hockey IQ, that he's a great team player the type successful teams need to win games and has offensive potential once given that opportunity.

Thankfully I'm confident Benning and Linden are much smarter that most fans are and that they see Guances true value and will find a way of keeping him.

I love Gaunce.  Realky.  Look back at his prospect thread.   Always saw him as the 3rd line center in his prime this team needed from 2008 to 2012

But

It's one of 2 ways.

We trade Sbisa and his cap hit for picks/prospect and lose Gaunce.  Net gain.

Or

Lose Sbisa for nothing at all over Gaunce

Because I don't see LV not taking a decent young 3-6 defenceman over a prospect with dismal 1st year numbers.

LOL Gaunce will not be a premium 3rd line center. He is getting closer to his peak already and he is beginning to resemble a valuable 4th line/3rd line tweener. Malhotra was what we needed back then.

Having said that, I would way rather keep Gaunce and lose Luca for nothing. Teams will be aware of our situation and low ball us for Luca. Not worth it. I will just be happy when that dman is gone. I've really softened up to Gaunce for some reason.

Not Sutter.

He is too valuable as a team leader, pk/defensive specialist, face off guy, and he has a nice shot.

I could give two $&!#s about Edler. He was dead to me when he ignored his d partner, proceeded to lazily flip the puck on his backhand out of play. Then he just stands there shrugging his shoulders. He's the biggest dill on the team. His bad qualities have always outweighed his good qualities, even in 2011.

Disagree with regards to Sutter. Epically disappointed in how far Edler has fallen.

I like Gaunce, he plays a hard physical game and he plays well defensively.

And he is getting more offensive opportunities every game.  Once of these days he is going to score.

I'd like to protect him, but not at the expense of Sutter or either of Baertschi or Granlund.

I would be in favour of exposing Eriksson... I think if we can unload his contract, we'd be much better off shopping the free agent market.

Call me crazy but I would keep Gaunce over Baertschi. I don't think Baer's style of play will translate very well to the playoffs. He's a cheap top 6 option now but long term I prefer Gaunce.

I would support using a draft pick to keep LVK from selecting him if needed

Theyd have scouts at most games, for every team I would think.

Probably not actually..Teams hire anywhere between 16 and twenty scouts to manage their drafting.  Vegas made their hires in time to send them out for bad coffee into small town Canada and overseas.  Sure that they will send them to a handful of games to help with whoever they are targeting in expansion but the numbers and an organizational disadvantage from a startup viewpoint means they won't be at a lot of games in each city.   Sbisa has Vegas painted on his well you get the picture at this point unless Vancouver decides to cut ties with Guddy instead.

Could you imagine the flak Benning would take for giving up a draft pick to keep Gaunce?

Expose Edler and let them have him. The Canucks got 10 years out of a 3rd round pick.

I'd love to protect him.  That being said, who do you think we should expose to make room given we have to protect Eriksson and the twins?

Bachman and Sbisa.

I wouldn't be so quick to conclude that.

Gaunce was scratched a couple of games in the Utica playoffs for lack of compete, while Baer was Green's go-to guy and identified as the Comet to take down by the opponents.  In juniors none of the young guys has produced at the same pace in the playoffs as Baer - he was lauded for his playoff performance.

His emergency call-up from juniors where he scored 3 goals was compared to playoff hockey because Calgary was still in the running - it was a neck-to-neck race playing against their direct opponents for the final spots.

We always want the home town pics to succeed but in reality you can find a Gaunce in the UFA class. He has potential to improve, but I mean he's not undeniably better than our other forwards at this point

Trade bait.

He's the sweetener in any deal involving the pending trade of Tanev/Edler or Hutton for an impact player, which he is not.

I like the guy, don't get me wrong, but the Canucks need top 6 muscle.

Cracknell was everything Gaunce is/was.

Lol

Every time you open your mouth to speak on this forum I picture someone pooping out of their mouth looking completely confused as to what's happen with the situation at hand whilst wearing a Leafs jersey.
