Jim Benning on Team 1040 March 9

It's unfortunate that so much time is spent in these interviews answering fluff like "Goldy's ice-time" and "are you rebuilding" and "will you fire Willie".  Takes away from the opportunity to ask real and meaningful questions and potentially get some real insights into the team, the players, and franchise intentions and direction.

Those questions are pretty big foundation questions.

Its also what the fans want to know so team 1040 is doing their job.

what questions do you want asked? and what questions as a gm, should he answer?

Damn am I ever tired of these morons at 1040 repeatedly asking if we're "transitioning or rebuilding"  They just want to hear Benning or Linden say the word rebuild.

Like wtf is the point? Are they going to feel accomplished in their jobs to finally get them to say rebuild?

1) Willie D

Glad Benning answered the ridonkulous question this way. I expect them to have Willie back next year, and expect them to trade Megna in the offseason.

2) Rebuild/Transition Talk

Another answer he's given ad nauseum to the hacks on this station. No wonder the Canucks are done with 1040. Thank Gord.

3) Goldobin

Great answer on this subject and hopefully the nail that shuts the coffin on this non-issue. Benning, Desjardins, Goldobin, and Larionov are fine with the situation, so why does anyone else still care?

4) Is it a disappointing season?

Another attempt at stirring a pot that needs to be left cold. Good on Benning for giving a curt answer.

5) Horvat

Great news from Benning. Exciting times ahead with Bo at the helm.

6) Sedinery

What else would he say? They're under contract for one more year. After that, hopefully, a year at a time, on minimal salary.

7) Boeser

Boeser joining the team will be a great thing. Another huge piece of the youth movement.

Miller would be great to have as a bridge to the future, but not for $6M AAV.

How about who he likes in the upcoming entry draft? Or what he is looking to add in the offseason? Maybe talk about prospects who are having good seasons that we as fans might not talk/know about. Players on the active roster or minors that have made strides, and excite him for the future.

As PB already responded, the questions are bunk.

Goldobin -- young player just out of AHL on a new team; raw and doesn't know the systems.  Of course he's going to be eased in.

Willie -- same as from TL: no way they will ever say "yes he's gone" or "no he'll be here".  Everything gets evaluated in the off-season.

Rebuilding -- zzzzzzzzzzzzz, three years of asking, over and over.  The problem is that people simply do not listen to the answers nor watch what's happening, and figure it out for themselves.

I'd rather hear about how other prospects are doing, plans to bring over Dahlen and Jasek, interest in college FAs, plans for Utica and the Aces now that the latter folded, etc.  But nope -- just answering fluff questions that already have been answered numerous times, and that are in many cases silly to even ask in the first place.

Question GMJB? Why would you want to do that? James Bennington the First of His Name, Supreme Overlord, Draft God, Winner of Trades is the epitome of greatness. I am sure HW thinks that being a "true" Canucks fan is all about worshiping even the floor that he walks on.

Some of the questions, such as Horvat, Sedins, Miller, and Boeser are questions that need asking.

However, plenty of the hacks on 1040 ask the same questions (rebuild/Willie) every time like a broken record. It's poor sensationalistic rumor mongering and pot stirring.

I wouldn't be surprised if some of the chuckleheads on 1040 have accounts here, and scour threads to generate questions, purely to cast a wide net fro listeners.

For 1 season it wouldn't be the end of the world as long as it doesn't effect extending Bo, Tryamkin and Guddy. With ~18 mil in cap space, figuring 5-6 for Bo, 4-5 for Guddy, and maybe 2-3 for Nik it makes space pretty tight with all the other small contracts like Gaunce to sign too. I imagine Goldy has made Rodin a one-off so there's some space there too.

So if they can WD in the off season then what will your view be like?

That it was their decision, and they felt that the team needed a different head coach.

I expect Willie to be brought back next year, as he is signed until next year. The coaching turnstile never looks good , especially when a team is committing to a youth movement.

That being said, the onus is one WD to focus more on the kids for the remainder of the season to prove that he is a coach that will be able to guide a young roster to contention.

Agreed. Miller should be looked at as a short term gap filler. Still a great goalie, but should be utilized in a support capacity going forward, with that idea made very clear to whomever is coaching the team next season.

A lot of people are dumping on Markstrom, but if a younger goalie isn't being given a run of games to build confidence, rhythm, and chemistry with teammates (especially defensemen) who are they supposed to develop consistency.

For better or worse, the crease needs to be handed to Markstrom, with Miller as a backup.
