Once those players either left or started playing better, had to dip down into the prospect pool to find prospective whippees.  Call it pre-emptive whipping; getting them ready before they even make the team.

Do they need to clear waivers for that?

Wasn't a big fan of the Juolevi pick because I saw him as a Hamhuis type a good number 2 dman where I saw Tkachuk a hard nosed first liner. I will say this I like 3 dmen in this draft that will probably go top 10 more than I like Juolevi. I like Liljigren, Makar and Valamaki and think all guys have more potential then Juolevi. I hope I'm wrong though.

I thought it was already agreed that OJ is bust because Tkachuk is already one of the best rookies in the history of the NHL and a future first ballot Hall of Fame'r? ;)

completely agree. rofl.

Juolevi snipes his team's GWG vs Sergachev's team.

Just saying :D Olli had 3 goals and 1 assist in this series. Is that enough to damper the "Juolevi / Sergachev comparisons?".  From the sounds of it Sergachev had an under whelming series and Juolevi was an absolute beast defensively and he manages to snipe 3 goals including the series winning goal.

I think Oli Juolevi will be a great replacement to Alex Edler and a key piece of our new core moving forward. We were very very fortunate to also land Hutton, Tyramkin, and Stetcher in the last couple years. We are two more good pieces away from having a solid top 4.

Oli Juolevi _______

________  Stetcher

Hutton Tyramkin

I think Tryamkin will be a first pairing d in his prime. Only 22 years old, he's going to be scary when he fills out a bit and gets his man strength.

We're unlikely to be able to hang on to all of them long term. They'll all be commanding top 4 minutes (and salaries) eventually and we'll be forced to move guys and replenish with prospects etc.

As much as I like the kid, I don't see Hutton here long term. My money is on him being likely the first domino in that regard.

I think I'm failing to see the same potential that you are.

Whenever I've seen him play, he looks looks lacklustre and seems to be missing defensive assignments. He hasn't been using his massive frame and superior strenght to rub out forwards on the rush or down low. I've seen him get beat with a turn or a pivot down low a lot. His gap control doesn't seem up to par either given his size. I think he has some work to do in the defensive zone still in terms of learning what to do and when to do it.

He has been pretty good at escaping forechecking forwards. He's made a quick turn and put the forechecker on his back a couple times. It's pretty much impossible to get the puck when he does that given his strength and reach. However, once he does that he usually just rushes it up and it doesn't lead to anything. If he could make that pass after the move and join the rush, that would probably be a lot better. Part of that could be the quality of the forwards though.

I think he has the some great tools and elements to his game, but nothing screams potential top pairing defenseman. I would say it's more of a potential top 4 situation.

The fact that this was his rookie year is encouraging.

might just be me but watching brisebois play, mind you not as much as I like, he looks to have a good shot at being an nhler.

I agree, looking at that draft he definitely should of been a first round pick!

I agree, I think Hutton is used this summer as a trade piece to get a fwd.

That's the thing, he's only a rookie. All those other things he can work on. Tons of defenseman don't hit their primes till they're 27+

I understand your point, but I don't think he's shown enough to warrant that kind of praise. I don't think he's shown any real flashes of being dynamic defensively or offensively that would potentially take him to that level. He looks like he'll be more of a shutdown specialist rather than dynamic player. Still an important player given his physical tools and a good player for us moving forward.

I've seen him make a few rushes out of the blue that were very impressive.

While I certainly don't think it's fair to expect that he'll fill out in the way that some of us hope he will, I certainly believe that it's possible. He has all of the tools, and seems to have a pretty good head on his shoulders.

Once he starts rushing consistently he'll be hard to handle. I saw a player literally jump out of his way when he was rushing the puck through their offensive zone. He might never be a number one, but I definitely think he has #2 potential. Looks far better than Chara at the same age

I think I'd just be repeating myself if I offered a counter. I agree that those rushes were pretty good though.

Wouldn't be a real shock a few years from now to see Tram and OJ as the top pairing. If they both continue to develop, that could be pretty solid.
