Even Denver might get it figured out. Problem with this team has been a lack of scoring from the back end, you need that to compete in this league. For sure D scoring has been an issue. But I don't agree that AZ or Col are getting better, not sure what they've done to improve.

Come draft lottery we win a top 2 pick and land NP or Hischier, which is what I am praying for but likely won't happen. Our top 3 lines before any other transactions look solid already. Sedins agree to become rentals at the deadline and also agree to be traded to separate teams and return on a cheap 2-3 year contract in the Offseason. Virtanen Horvat Boeser Goldobin Hischier Dahlen Granlund Sutter Gaudette Sedin Sedin Eriksson Juolevi Gudbranson Tryamkin Stecher Hutton Tanev Demko Gartieg/Markstrom You have a lot of optimism. Your predictions however are not very likely to happen. Sedins would retire before being traded, we will not be anywhere near a cup for at least 7-8 years. TimberWolf
It depends on what you mean by playoffs. We could squeak in once in a blue but we're not about to contend any time soon.
FireGillis
No quick fix. Next year's draft will have elite talent in it and we need one of them. I say 2-3 more years of top 5 picks before we're ready to talk playoffs again.

Nucks89
Depends on what the mandate of ownership is. Rightly or wrongly, Aquaman may not want to go through a few more years like this.
DSVII
too early to tell but i think we can get back to playoffs in 4 years. And we can contend if we get Hischer/Dahlen the next two years. How our drafts look this next 2 years changes the answer drastically
alt kilgore
Call me Apollo, but I'm a half full glass when it comes to making the playoffs. I'm pleasantly surprised by our future and getting there sooner rather than later. As far as barely scraping into the playoffs? I think 2 years time is not unreasonable if there were not any major health problems. No way I'm content with waiting another 5 years just to watch Canuck playoff games. A SC contender is another story.

A SC contender is another story. I think you are correct - season after next I could see a team vying for a playoff spot like the Leafs are doing this year. A year or two later I could see a team that could be pushing as hard as anyone else. But when I say I 'could see', that doesn't mean that I expect it to be written in stone. There is a lot that can happen between now and then. The Canucks at the start of the season looked like they could potentially make the post season, but that was cut short, mostly by an insane series of illnesses and injuries. There are a lot of guys in the system right now with some solid potential. If a decent number of them reach that potential in the same way Bo, Baer and Granlund have, things will be looking up. If they end up being a bust, it's going to be a longer road to success. This season, the Canucks are leading the league in man games lost with I believe 347 at last count. That's an average of 5 roster players a game missing per game, but it's really worse than that because teams start the year relatively healthy. If the team is more healthy, I'd imagine we'd see a better performance on the ice. If the injuries continue at this pace, I'd imagine it would be hard to compete no matter who we have on our roster. The Capitals have MGL of 43, the Leafs 102, the Flames 75. Edmonton, with it's stacked roster, is still competitive with 284 and a contender possibly this year if they can get healthy despite missing the playoffs for forever before this year. Life is like a box of chocolates....

I hope you're not talking about the Stanley Cup. Tryamkin Stecher Juolevi Gudbranson Hutton Tanev Brisbois Today, no, but if we're talking 5 years from now who knows? Not necessarily in this order either. Juolevi was drafted #5 & The Canucks do have high expectations of him. I'm assuming top 2 if he was drafted that high. Gubranson former #3 overall is still only 24 years old & was obviously playing with an injury in his short stint here. Not saying he's a top 2 guy but a solid top 4 with the proper chemistry & mix could maybe be a top pairing type of guy especially if Juolevi develops as good or better than his projections. The hardest part will be trying to keep them all together, I could see that group being pretty successful if they do. With the other 4 guys mentioned this defense in 2-5 years could really be a solid group. Might lack a true #1, (too early to really say) but looks like we have 6 solid top 4 guys with lots of room to still improve being so young still. granpappy
one good thing about all these signings is jb will have limited access to nhl regulars ufa's signings this off season meaning, rather than pushing for a pie in the sky post season spot, we can continue to draft high and rebuild our team the way it was meant to be rebuilt; through the draft. 6string
In a three year time frame we will see the current reign of power be reduced to rubble and that will include the Kings, Ducks, Blues, Hawks and Predators ( fill in your own list ). As these teams climb down the ladder the Canucks will be challenging the likes of the Oilers, Flames at the top and possibly the Jets, Coyotes, Stars and Avalanche will be in the playoff mix of the Western Conference. I'll say it again Linden and Benning have a steady hand at the control, I only question the coaching to date, maybe this off season another piece to puzzle will be added. Davathor
"One more year until playoffs" Seriously? Only on CDC. Just not built for the long haul are you guys? First year of actual rebuilding type moves and you think we're only a year away? A 2 year rebuild, losing the best players to wear the jersey, likely starting tandem of markstrom/who knows... one of the lowest scoring teams in the league... 3rd WORST team in the league (maybe 2nd by end of season) but.. one more year of stinking? Horrible thread, ridiculous expectations, over rating of every young player, and a general complete lack of reality. Try 3 years, and that's if we get lucky and get a top 2 pick that turns out better than Nugent-Hopkins, or Yakupov
