      Forum-specific Rules   07/11/2017

These are board specific rules for the Trades and Rumors forum designed to provide organization and a better experience for everyone. Please review these rules before posting new threads.
THREAD ETIQUETTE   1. Please search for an existing thread before posting. This forum can be very fast moving, so it's understandable if redundant threads are inadvertently posted. In such a case, please use the report feature to request removal of redundant threads.    2. Provide a clearly identifiable topic title so that users can readily understand the content. The title should include any and all teams involved, as well as player names or other personnel involved as appropriate.   3. All trades, signings, rumors and other news MUST include a linkable source. Simply posting the name of the source is not enough. Effort should also be made to copy and paste the full article, or at the very least the relevant portion of text from the source to the first post of the thread. Moderators may remove low-quality threads in favour of high-quality threads.

Affixed to the front of your title should be a label that identifies the type of transaction that is taking place. For all trades use [TRADE]. For all signings use [SIGNING]. For all waiver-wire transactions use [WAIVERS]. For all rumours use [RUMOUR].
For articles or news items that don't fit into the above categories, affix an appropriate label of your choice such as [NEWS], [ARTICLE] or [MISC].   4. When the status of a thread changes a new thread can be created. The new thread should reflect the change and help focus the discussion on current events. e.g. Someone may create a new thread when a rumor becomes a trades. The old thread will be locked by the moderating team.    5. Do not misrepresent the contents of your thread or post false trades or rumors. Trolling will result in a permanent suspension.

SOURCES   The following source types are considered INVALID. Any links to posts or threads on other message boards Any links to personal blogs Any news heard on the radio that does not have a link to an audio vault or podcast Any news seen on television that does not have a link to online video Any news spread by word of mouth
Additionally, certain sources may be be blacklisted due to poor credentials, clear traffic-mongering etc. Blacklisted sources will be posted here.
Thank you for your co-operation and please PM the Administrator or Moderators if you have any questions, concerns or suggestions regarding this forum.

Meh, I say let him go.

See what he can do over there and if by 2019 he's shown enough to warrant us giving him a contract we give him the opportunity to come back.

I will wait and see before holding judgement.  Probably just click bait.

This could explain why Dmitri Sokolov dropped so much last year in the draft. I really expected him to get snapped up in the 3rd round. But to go all the way down to the 7th round was way off. At least to me.

LOL - the thread title makes it seem like it's some shocking headline out of the blue with huge consequences for the franchise.

Title should have been, "Mid-Round pick with mediocre chances of making NHL chooses to play at home".  That's IF, and it's a big if, it's even true.

Could be a good thing, if true. We've got plenty of time left on his rights (2019), and maybe he develops better over there?

KHL would be a better measuring stick than a CHL overage year. And he's not at the point (yet) where we need to be in any rush inking an ELC (and contract slot) on him.

If he matures, adds strength, and puts up points in what's ostensibly the world's #2 professional league, then we can look at signing him and bringing him back into the fold (before his rights expire).

If he doesn't, then probably he wasn't meant for the NHL, and we save the bother of a contract slot and ELC on a player that didn't pan out.

And "bolting" to the KHL doesn't seem to mean as much anymore. Lots of these guys are willing to come back. Especially the ones who have legitimate shots at becoming good NHL players (and that's pretty uncertain re: Zhukenov). But a couple KHL seasons would provide a fairly decent indicator on what kind of pro potential this kid has.

So if the rumour's true, I'd just roll with it and see what happens. Keep in touch with the player and follow his progress. And be ready to offer him an NHL deal if and when he shows he deserves one.

Don't we have to sign him within 2 years of being drafted?  (Honest Question...)

Regardless its a good play on his part. We would have to give him the clause that gives him the right to walk if he's not in the NHL. To return. Same as Tryamkin. Because the KHL pays way more than the AHL portion of an ELC.

In the end its up to him to earn a shot in any case. He's not there yet.

Not a bad decision if it's true.  The Canucks will be full of young players, Utica will be full of other prospects and journeyman players.... I have no idea about the status of the ECHL farm team.  An additional year in the CHL won't be very helpful either.

That just leaves the KHL.  He gets to go back for some home cooking and can potentially earn good money than in the minors.
