strange the way the puck drops.

Calgary, by all rights, has probably done a pretty good job improving their roster the past two years (aside from a couple pretty favourable deals for Vancouver).

Added Hamilton.  Gave up some good picks (Senyshen, Forsbacka-Karlson, and Jeremy Lauzon) - but arguably strengthened their blueline.

Added Frolik and Brouwer - two very solid two way middle six forwards.

Added Stone for a 3rd round pick.

Some decent returns/futures for Hudler, Russell.

And of course had Tkachuk step in and be productive as a rookie.

A few good goaltenders added to the system (including Gillies), and what appeared a modest upgrade in the crease (Elliott and Johnson).

And yet they regressed hard last year, and are on the verge of being swept this.

Things don't necessarily add up as they may seem...

Backlund is looking pretty good tonight. Definitely the best flame.

Backlund is one of the most under-rated players in the league imo.

Probably belongs in the running for the Selke - if not a very serious candidate.

Outstanding two way player.

22.7% offensive zone starts.

40.9% defensive.

54.7 corsi.

57 takeaways

53 points - in those kind of minutes.

Wish we coulda poached this guy a couple years ago tbh.

Part of the reason I temper my impression of Tkachuk - playing with a pair of guys like Backlund and Frolik is pretty ideal.

I think Backlund is arguably their most complete player - he helped inflate chucky's numbers too.
