In the event that war, on the international level, did occur, who would benefit or profit from a nuclear winter, or end of humanity?

Obviously no one. But that hasn't stopped anyone before.

Megalomaniacs always think they can win. And they think of losing a few of their own people is a win-win.

Without a doubt. I just don't understand the mindset of those who would essentially invite a conflict, where the outcome could be apocalyptic, onto themselves and their people.

Comparing to history, this is probably one of the more peaceful times.

Population is exploding, life expectancy is higher, and we have not see apocalyptic events like world wars, plague, influenza etc.

But you wouldn't think that by reading on Internet or watching TV, fear mongering is big business.

Pretty tough to live out a nuclear winter that lasts for years no food crops no livestock.  Electrical grid gone frozen food stores finished.  Water mostly contaminated by radiation and disease.  Back to a time even harder than the stone age.  Insects and small mammals will be the primary life form once again.

Senate votes 97-2 for new sanctions imposed on the Russkies..Merkel/Germany are p*ssed about it.

Trump also decides to send 4,000 new troops to Afghanistan.

How is this any different than what's been going on for the last 20 years consistently?

Obama sent 80,000 new troops to Afghanistan in 2009/10.

Guess I'd liken it to leaks in the dike, & how many fingers/toes you try to plug it up with.

Messy times & mighty dishonest mainstream media.

If economy/environment & social discontent spiral beyond gov't control, TPTB may escalate tensions for the sake of them.

So Trump is forcing the issue with Merkel regarding military spending.  Fraying relations with the Russians, thus Germany will either need to rely the US more for military protection, thus forcing Germany into a more subservient role.  Or Merkel will increase military spending, thus playing into Trump's narrative that Germany needs to spend more.

Alternatively.... Japan tends to follow US sanctions.  IIRC, Japan originally had some energy agreement with the Russians prior to Crimea.... that fell through once sanctions were imposed.

I see more countries pivoting towards the Russia/China(somewhat simplified perhaps) initiatives.

No one may utter it publicly, but NATO appears redundant. They need to create a threat for supposed/fabricated legitimacy.

If Germany tires of serving as a vassal state, their opinions may start blowing in the wind like a Turkish-gameplan.

Realistically speaking, Germany needs to spend more and to lead Europe militarily.

On the other hand, a thought of Germany increasing military budget, makes me slightly uncomfortable.

Where have I seen that before.......hmmmmm, I wonder?

There are some talks of having an EU army to exert influence abroad and to counter any Russian aggression.... but it wouldn't make any sense as most European nations are already cheaping out in their military funding obligation to NATO.

I think Spain came up with this EU army idea, it's short for Estados Unidos :)

Nor would it be a threat to Russia. The only threat to Russia is the U.S. without the U.S Europe is no threat to Russia.

- US led coalition downs Syrian army jet, in that country's southern region

- Iran fires ballistic(mid-range, 700 km) missiles at terrorist camps in Syria, apparently to avenge terror attacks in Iran(early June).

Things keep heating up folks.

Russian military halts Syria sky incident prevention interactions with US as of June 19 – Moscow

The Russian Defense Ministry announced it is halting cooperation with its US counterparts in the framework of the Memorandum on the Prevention of Incidents and Ensuring Air Safety in Syria following the coalition’s downing of a Syrian warplane.

“In the areas of combat missions of Russian air fleet in Syrian skies, any airborne objects, including aircraft and unmanned vehicles of the [US-led] international coalition, located to the west of the Euphrates River, will be tracked by Russian ground and air defense forces as air targets,” the Russian Ministry of Defense stated.

According to some the end game in Syria is a US - Russia conflict.

It's going to come down to whether America decides to go to war or not. Or more specifically whether Americans who oppose have any say in the matter.

So you have a Trump reality + emboldened right-wing + a record number of apathetic non-voters... do the math. Celebrity anti-war commercials aren't going to cut it anymore.

Those who seek to gain in the aftermath want to see it happen. The rest of us are suckers for letting it happen.
